Hi everybody.

I'm new to this board, but have had great fun reading the posts. I'm planning my first trip to ST. John in August for my wedding and honeymoon. I'm so very excited and just can't wait to get there and see for myself what you've all been describing. It sounds like paradise.

My fiance and I are searching for a villa, and have about made ourselves nuts in the process! There are so many that look great. So confusing. 🙂

I see many people have asked about specific villas, so I thought if some of you could post about villas you've visited and what you liked or didn't like about them, it might help those of us looking for one.

Hi -
Without a doubt, for two, my pick would be Morningside Villa overlooking Rendezvous Bay and Ditliff Point, booked through Denise at www.onlinevacations.com. Here's the owner's website - btw, we are the "P&M Z" whose entry from the guest book is on the home page.

http://www.morningsidevilla.com/index.html

This is a wonderful villa for a group but for two it is ideal. Because of the shape, the open air common rooms and the floorplan of the villa, everything you need for two is on the main level. You don't have to go far for liquid refreshment and you don't need a two-way to communicate from the kitchen to the pool - lol. The pool is just the right size for floating or a cool-off. The built-in heated spa is wonderful. The sun sparkles so much off the water in Klein Bay you'll need shades. Cruise ships pass in the distance (the villa has binoculars). At night, the stars are so close you can almost touch them. The pool and hand-made deck lighting and bluestone accents are very soft and romantic. We loved the pass-through bar from the pool deck to the kitchen - put the blender there. The grill is on it's own separate patio right off the dining area. A/C in the bedrooms. Great semi-open air showers. Nice linens, comfortable king-sized beds, plenty of towels, including large fluffy beach towels; toiletry amenities; hair dryers; a safe; a washer / dryer; paved roads all of the way from Cruz Bay; parking on the same level as the villa entrance; Living Room stereo can be enjoyed on the pool deck. A walk or a quick drive takes you to the path to an often deserted white sand beach at Ditliff Point. Every morning I enjoyed the sunrise over coffee on the deck. Nice and silent - very little could be heard from the few neighboring luxury villas. The breezes are fantastic and the villa is still low enough so you can hear the water and see the pelicans diving for dinner. Rendezvous Bay is great for kayaking - you can rent one in Cruz Bay. Well, I've talked MYSELF into it, anyhow, - we need to go back there next year! Best of luck - I can't wait to read some of the other recommendations. STJ is so beautiful!

You are right - there are so many great villas in STJ. I highly recommend Denise. She is wonderful at helping to narrow the field and making sure you get what you need and want, both before your trip and during your stay on STJ.

My favorite (I have only been to two) is the gatehouse at Peter Bay. It is available at vacationvistas.com and Lisa is the contact person. Very nice and helps out on everything. It is perfect for a honeymoon as is a one bedroom. Check it out

Check out www.calabashcottages.com. These are great little places and a good value. But you do need a car and they are high on a hill with a rough road.

We stayed in Fort Miles last year and absolutely loved it.

We're staying in Perelandra this year. Anybody know anything about it?

We stayed at Sunset Pointe for our weddingmoon, booked thru CarefreeGetaways.com--they will set you up, 100%. Large deck overlooking STT and beautiful sunsets with a sweet dip pool for refreshment. Well stocked, close to everything, away enuff for privacy. Suits two, four and six, no trouble. Lovely, lovely, trust. Plus, there's a blue fork (giant cement blue fork) road marker. That came in handy for our housemate. Don't overlook Coral Bay, we won't next time.

Thanks to all of you who are posting about the villas. I've looked at all of the one's you've written about and actually almost booked Windwardside Cottage with Callabash. The only drawback for us was the lack of a/c. Since we're going in August, we worried it might be a little hot. The lady at Callabash said that particular villa didn't get a lot of breezes either. It was very nice that she was open and honest about that.

Right now we're researching Orchid Knoll and Villa Capiz. Both have spectacular views and offer privacy and a/c in the bedroom. They also both have a pool, which we really want for our honeymoon, and garden showers. If anyone has any info on these properties, please let me know.

I am soooo excited to be getting married on St. John. 🙂

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. May you be blessed with many happy years with your spouse, and your union be as beautiful, tranquil and pure as St. John itself.

Calabash Cottages Windwardside
We just returned from a week at Windwardside Main House and loved every minute! It has magnificent, breath-taking views and is very secluded for total privacy. It's a wonderful blend of island charm and architecture, set in lush gardens and tropical landscaping. The tradewinds and ceiling fans kept us cool and we slept with a blanket most nights. It has a spacious patio with outdoor garden showers and a nice hot tub overlooking the stunning view. Several porches (one huge screened porch) offer plenty of cool shade from the sun while outdoors. A perfect hoenymoon spot!

Thank you Ann. I will look this villa up again. We called about it a couple of weeks ago and really liked it until we learned it didn't have a/c. We're going in August, so we are concerned that it might be really hot that time of year. Based on your review, we might want to revisit the idea of windwardside again.

A couple of others I've recently come across and like are "Dream Come True", "Sea Stone" and "Litte Plantation". Decisions, decisions... 🙂

It has been our experience that temperature variations on STJ due not fluctuate more than 5-10 degrees all year long. When we visit, we look for villas with tradewinds and the ceiling fans are only needed during the lull in winds (late morning and dusk). Often, we were already gone to the beaches or still not back yet anyway.

It seems as if Windwardside has the breeze you will want so I would not limit yourself to AC only. We had AC and never used it in July.

Ann,

I really am reconsidering windwardside for our honeymoon after reading your post and the one that Chris just posted concerning the temperatures in August. Can you tell me a little more, such as the condition of the road leading to the house? Are there screens on the windows? With all the foliage and trees, I am a little concerned about bugs. I think you answered this already, but just to confirm, the winds are pretty constant?

Calabash Cottages all the way. Gorgeous views, adventurous drive up, peace and quiet. Susan, the cottage's owner, is great. Ooops! Our secret getaway is out. Seriously, you should consider Windward side, or my favorite, Sago Cottage.

Well it looks like we've settled on Mooncottage for our honemoon. It has come highly recommend and the photos and virtual tour are absolutely amazing!!! Now I just have to sit back and wait for the next three months to go by. I am truly excited. Thanks to all of you who've offered suggestions.
