Me and 3 friends are moving out to st thomas around September. One of my frineds and his girlfriend are going to stay at a guest room with his parents, and me and my other friend were looking at hotels and they are just too expensive and we don't know how long we will need to stay. We want to tent out until we find an apartment, could be a couple days, could be up too two weeks, who knows. Where can we tent? We will want to be in St thomas but where ever we have to be is okay. We just want to spend as little as we can.

Nothing on STT for just pitching a tent.
STJ has bare campsites at Cinnamon Bay for rent and Water Island, I believe has a campground but not sure if they have just bare sites.
A word of caution. Don't think you can sneak camp anywhere.
You can get in trouble, legally and otherwise.
Tickets Garden has hostel type accommodations on STT.
Bring lots of money and leave it with friends parents if camping.

Magen Bay has bare sites but only for a stay of a couple of nights. The hostel-type accommodation is Rhoda's Guest House on the East end in Tillett Gardens.

If you're moving here you should register on the relocation site (see "Visit Moving Forum" link above). There's a ton of information about moving here in the drop-down menus top of the page. Just my opinion but it's really foolish to move here with little or no money. Living here isn't cheap and getting around without your own transportation is a major headache. At least have an open-ended return ticket to get you back home if things don't work out. Good luck!

I am making the move in July to St Croix and have been researching this a lot.

I was considering guerrilla camping. Off the beaten path, somewhere you wont be noticed, move every night, etc. Its worked for me in towns all over the US.

HOWEVER. I found someone to let me set up camp in their back yard. I looked for hosts on couch surfing .com and talked to a few. Found a guy who will let us camp in their yard for a week or so, use their shower when their around, etc.
I think its going to be a much better route.

Will the friends parents let you camp on their property?
