Want to vacation in St. John, We're a couple who likes hanging at pool and beach all day sipping on cocktails, not really the adventurous types, not alot of activity. Want a place that offers great cuisine without any travel, also want accommodations near nightlife, couple of the local bars. Not really on a budget... Where should we stay?? Any suggestions

Caneel is probably your best bet. There or the Westin seem to be the natural choices. You could rent a villa and a personal chef, since you indicate great cuisine without any travel. Both Caneel and Westin are a quick taxi from Cruz Bay where some of the nightlife is.

Caneel has the better beach, I think and has outstanding property grounds.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

Not sure St.John is the place for you, based on what you're looking for. There are only 2 resorts, the Westin & Caneel Bay. Haven't stayed at either, but from what I've heard, the Westin has a great pool & a lousy beach (manmade). It caters mostly to families.Caneel has 7 beautiful beaches scattered around its peninsula, but I don't think it has a pool.

I think that you should forego St John and head for an all-inclusive resort, maybe, on Turks & Caicos? OR - even St Croix (to stay true to the USVI!!!)
St Thomas has some great resorts, too - the Marriott has multiple pools, restaurants, and a decent beach.
St John is an island with the greatest beaches...no question about it....but, the pool thing isn't one of its assets. People who enjoy St John tend to be willing and able to walk/hike to many gorgeous sandy spots. More than a few of of the really good beaches aren't so easy to get to unless you are willing to work a bit to get to them (which makes it quite fun for us, actually - and we are 55).
The Westin's pool is wonderful, however, but the beach is a little bit to be desired. We have stayed there and enjoyed the grounds and the friendliness of the large staff....also, the restaurants are pretty good. Sitting by the pool there with drinks is "the life" - if there aren't hoards of kids there - but it would be a shame to miss Honeymoon Beach, Salt Pond, Cinnamon Bay. This is what St John is all about!

Are you kidding????

If I were "not really on a budget" and wanted a week sitting by the water, great food on site and proximity to nightlife I would head straight to Caneel Bay Resort. With seven different beaches, expansive beautiful grounds with outrageous views and wildlife (and yes, there is a pool), top-notch service, a couple of great restaurants and luxury accommodations it would be a dream vacation (if I were "not really on a budget.) Caneel's been around a long, long time, longer than all those villas. It is able to stay around because it is a wonderful resort that offers to many exactly what they seek (if they are "not really on a budget.) There are more ways than one to enjoy St. John.

It's a fantastic resort, but, as you might have guessed, relatively pricey. If you can do it, then go for it.

Agreed....Caneel is awesome. You wouldn't ever have to leave the grounds - I guess, if you so choose.
With an unlimited budget, I would pick this over the Westin ANY day. My family has stayed there and loved it. Keep in mind that, depending on the accommodations, all are between $500-$900/day, however. I remember the Westin being a little less.....we paid around $550/day. Whatever you decide.....have a beautiful time!
