My husband and I are visiting St. Thomas during the first week of July. We are trying to plan out our trip and the excursions we would like to do. I was wondering what would be more worth our time, going to Tortola and swimming with the dolphins at Dolphin Discovery or going on a full day sail trip where we will visit the Baths at Virgin Gorda and the Soggy Dollar Bar at Jost Van Dyke. Thanks so much! If you have any other fun excursion ideas please let me know! Thanks!

Either excursion will be wonderful. The Baths are beautiful but you do have to climb a little bit and some of the rocks require a tight squeeze thru...lol. I haven't been to the dolphin encounter but we sent our friends with their 2 children last year and they had a wonderful time and got the video..it looked really nice.

I'd vote for the Baths, myself (New Horizons II)....and you might also want to check out the coolest excursion that my ex-wife runs...www.bossvi.com, which is only a half day trip to Buck Island...AWESOME experience!

I say, do the Baths and a snorkel stop which will be a day's worth. Then do a Jost trip with some snorkel time and definitely the Soggy Dollar and Foxies. We had the best time on board Daydreamer for the Jost trip. Also loved Limnos for the Baths trip. There are many other boat options but these are two of our favorites. Particularly Daydreamer.

I dunno, Bob...so much to see and do, why not kill the Baths and the Soggy Dollar, with lunch and snorkeling, all in one day on the New Horizons II? That's my vote, anyway.

Marty, I have been seriously considering the New Horizons II trip as it has been so highly recommended. My question is this though, do you really get enough time at the Baths or on Jost to enjoy yourself? Isn't it 60-90 minutes at each? For this reason, I was thinking of a Daytrip that stays in the USVI and taking separate trips via ferry to the baths & jost.

I've been on the NHII probably 30 or 40 times and I think it gives the exactly correct amount of time at each. Sure I think some would rather stay at the Baths longer, and some at White Bay, but all around, everyone just raves about what a great day it is...give it a try! And when you book thru the website (or phone), tell Holly (the owner..and new Mom) that you heard of it thru me and she may give you a small discount, which is always nice..

Marty, NH II is on my to do short list for next Feb.. Have been wanting to go out with them but just run out of time. They are right at Sapphire where we stay so it's like perfect. A short walk ,or more correctly a long short walk, home and no driving. By the way your ex's BOSS trip. We did the BOB a few years ago and loved it. Tried to do the BOSS this past Feb but had a great deal of trouble finding info on the new named business. BOB is now BOSS or gone and BOSS is new? Anyway finally got the # and called but no one called back for like 4 days and we were scheduled for other things by then. She needs to advertise more and some of those pamphlets spread around. Anyway, if it's anything like the BOB it's a great time. Half hour or so underwater on the scooter at Buck and some snorkeling there as well. Always next year..

cdamion: These day trips really are BVI Samplers- they let you go to several places, briefly, in order to see a large amount of geography in a short period of time. If you haven't seen the BVI, I think it is a great way to travel. If you have already been, then you might want to stay at one place or another for a longer period of time. You can't have it all! 😉

Hey, Bob,

Yeah, the name changed from BOB to BOSS for legal reasons. They still go out everyday, but their main clients are the cruiseshippers. If you call and leave a message and get no reply, try again, but I believe that the reason for no reply was that they had to pull the boat out of the water for their annual inspection and painting and maintenance, etc. You can also reach them thru the website and e-mail her. She's pretty good about staying on top of that. Anyhoot, yep, BOB is now BOSS...and still a fantastic trip!

East Ender - but I want to do it all - in 8 days. We decided to find a local sail charter because my wife has never been on a sail boat, and are trying to figure one out. We have decided to go spend the night on Tortola spending the first day at Jost and the Second at the Baths and the surrounding area, then back from the Baths to STT on the ferry.

The fact that the full moon just happens to be the same night as our night on Tortola is purely coincidental - really.

Well, wanting to do it all isn't a federal offense, I don't think! Have you thought of doing a crewed charter in the BVI? A great way to see a different spot each night, sail during the day...There are plenty of sights to see in the area. You can visit for a week, or live here for many years, and still find stuff to do...(tu)

cdamion,

Tortola? Full Moon? Coincidence? I think not!! I think the stars and the rest of the heavens have co-aligned so as to make this a surety!! Good for you!
