We recently visited St Martin, St Kitts and Nevis. We were really disappointed with how brown and dry they all appear. The virgin isands alway appear much more green and lush. Do these other islands always look like this or did we catch them at a bad time. We visited them earlier this month and we have little desire to return to them unless some in here tell us we visited at a bad time.

Well, the Virgin Islands look pretty brown right now, too. All of the Eastern Caribbean has a dry season from January to April, and some years it's drier than others. If we're really unlucky, we don't get rain until July. Here in the VI we've had 6 above average rainfall years in a row, but it looks like we're making up the difference this year!

We've had a little paucity of rain the last few weeks but are starting to get some nice showers and it has an almost immediate effect which I notice because after a couple of weeks of NOT having to mow and weed whack, it's back to that again in the next couple of days as that pesky bush and island grass needs only the slightest excuse to reinvent itself! Anyway, it traditionally doesn't rain much until AFTER Carnival and, since this is the last week of the celebration, I rather expect more rain next week ...

I used to go to St Maarten quite a lot at different times of the year and sometimes it was more lush than others but, by the same token, the brown/dry there always seemed more pronounced than here. Can't speak for Nevis/St Kitts which I've only flown over but I THINK down-island is generally a bit drier than the USVI.

I was on Nevis almost 5 years ago (in May) for my honeymoon and thought it was very lush and green...it rained a lot while we were there. Maybe they're a little low on rainfall this year. How much did you explore the islands?

I loved Nevis. We felt like the only tourists on the island while we were there. Pristine, beautiful, small, undeveloped, incredibly friendly people, very lovely. Nice beaches, great hiking, very peaceful and relaxing.

STTRes, you must get more rain than we do on the southwest corner of WI. Barely a drop of rain in a month. We have had maybe one or two brief showers at night but other than that, clear blue skies. Not that we're complaining.....rain soon come.

As I said, FlBI, some recent nice showers but, as you know, it can rain on one side of the street and not the other! I can watch big black rain clouds drift right by with nary a drop but it'll have dumped on Red Hook and then headed for town missing me completely. But, soon come for true.

Where I live on St. Croix it looks like autumn in the states. Trees are dropping leaves like crazy. I can see neighbors houses that are usually completely obscured by foliage. Rain soon come, PLEASE.

Good Evening,

We live in Minnesota and it was fairly dry this spring and now we finally are getting some much needed rain also. We definitely understand your rain deficit. Many of the lakes here are low.

I hope the islands are getting the moisture that is coming up from the southern gulf. Hopefully it rains in little spurts so the dry ground can absorb it all. I also hear it is a bit windier than normal. (20 to 30 mph) I will do a couple of rain dances for y'all.;)

My wife and I will coming down the 9th of May. It was pretty dry for the week last year. We don't mind if it rains off and on our vacation, just as long we can sneak in the water between storms.

Best Regards,

Tim

Well, at least some parts of STT today got a total drench of rainfall for about 3/4 of an hour today. Yee hah! We were forecast for 40% today and that came true, at least where I am and in several other locations. The rest of the day was gorgeous. Nothing unusual! Cheers!

Well the reason why some of the other Caribbean islands seem so brown when you visited, is due to the fact that they have been going through one of the longest drought in years. Hopefully they do get some rain very soon. St. Kitts and Nevis are usually very green lush islands.

Thanks for taking notice of this situation, that's the reason why I am so disturb when trees are destroyed unnecessarily in the Virgin Islands. Case in point when the three hundred years mahogany trees where cut down at Mandela circle in St Thomas I do hope that trees where planted in the Virgin Islands on earth day.
