Has anyone stayed at Winsome House? We have 2 weeks booked this summer and I am just curious about anyone's experiences and details of what they liked, didn't like, wish they'd packed....etc.

Thanks!

Good Morning!

I didn't get a response to this posting in January, so I thought I'd bump it up! We are so excited about this trip and hope that we've made a good villa choice. We'll be sure to post a trip report and highlight the features of this villa. We would really appreciate hearing from anyone with a "Winsome House" experience!

Hi beachluvers,
Don't worry, you've made an excellent choice! While I haven't stayed at Winsome house, I did a walk thru of it 2 yrs.
ago when it was brand new. I was there like 2 hrs before it's first renters arrived. It's better than it looks in the pictures. Unless there's new construction going on it the area you should be very private(no tan lines) on the pool deck. Outstanding views of Coral Bay, east end, sunrises and moonrises.A good central location too. Easy ride to Coral Bay and Francis and Maho Bays on the north shore. I went through the archives and this is what I wrote about it 2 yrs. ago after taking a day to walk thru 4 different villas, in search of the "perfect" villa for us.

"Winsome House;( http://www.destinationstjohn.com/winsome.htm) Just plain gorgeous! Located off Ajax Peak Rd. which is near the intersection of Centerline and Northshore by the Smoothie stand. This is a brand new plantation style home, about ½ a mile of the main road. The first part of the road is concrete, then onto dirt and rock. It’s a bit rough but not too steep or terrible to drive. I would estimate it to be at about 500-600 feet up the hill side. Winsome is open, allowing all day sun and all night moon but reasonably private too. The house faces south with at least a 180 degree view that includes the Bordeaux Mts. to the west, Coral Bay area to the south and East End and BVI’s to the east. This is a 2 building layout. Main house has high ceilings, large, dark tiled floors and beautiful mahogany cabinets and furnishings. French doors open out to the covered wood deck. Outside a wide brick staircase leads up to the master bedroom. King size bed, walk in closet, large bath and covered deck off master room. The second bedroom on the lower level is the same as the master but with 2 twin beds and a shower that opens out onto the deck. This lower bedroom also has doors that open to a covered deck and then to the open pool deck. Beautiful landscaping here, all in all a very classy place. This is probably my favorite house of the 4 but not my favorite location/setting. Both Winsome and Maison are a little pricey (at least for me) in the high season. I had checked them out with thoughts of visiting during the low season which I could afford but my workload at that time of year would not allow it so I’m stuck in the peak season in Feb. "

I'm sure you'll have a fabulous time at Winsome, can't wait to read your report when you return!

Thank you, Jofus! We really appreciate your response on this posting. Do you think we should have any concerns with no AC in July/August. We are getting varying opinions on this. There are ceiling fans, and as you state, good positioning on the mountain to catch the breezes. I hope you are having a pleasant day!

Hi beachluvers,
I can't speak/type from experience as I only go to STJ in Feb. but as long as there's a breeze coming in off the ocean you should be fine. We stayed at Happy Moon villa on Ajax Peak and never turned on the A/C, in fact I normally had to wear long sleeves in the evening due to the breezes but remember that's in February.

Hi Beachluvers - I know it's been many years since you stayed at Winsome House, but was wondering how you liked it? It's been updated some now and has some new furniture and airconditoining in the bedrooms, but it would be great to hear what you thought of it even then. How was the drive to it? How was the house, t he views, etc...? Would love some input. We're planning a trip in late May and thinking of staying there.

Thanks!
