Just booked for my two week March stint in St Croix. Prices on American seemed to have dropped a bit and much better than last year believe it or not!

What's your trick for getting cheaper AA rates. Yikeity yoo! I can't seem to get any good fares from Boston to STT.

Jo-Ann,

Regarding AA tickets: I watched AA for several months as they seemed to be cheaper than Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz, SideStep, Cheapfares, CheapCaribbean, AAA, and several other sites I kept checking. Problem was that when I found my perfect route on AA at a reasonable price, everytime I tried to purchase, it would come up as "no longer available". Same thing happened last year. I was sitting there the day after Thanksgiving seeing the fares go up and seats available go down. I was trying to book for eight people so was a bit complicated because two of us were staying a week longer than the rest. Anyway, I booked the six of them thru AA at an awful price (I paid for four of them), then tried two get two more but coming back a week later. Guess what? Not available. Well then I check all over and finally got the tickets I wanted thru Travelocity at near the same price I paid American.

Well, as I was saying. The Same thing was happening this year so when I saw the good prices on American come up and tried to purchase only to find no longer available, I decided to see if all those other outfits maybe purchased them from American. Well, I don't know if they did or not but after searching several outlets, I found the tickets I wanted at Expedia. They had been jacked up about 90.00 but still but about 350.00 ea. cheaper than last year.

I'm satisfied. Good luck to you.

Paula and Kerry,

So happy you can make it to St Croix again this year. We leave Mar 18th and return Apr 1st. Why don't you guys bump it up a week or two?

Hi JoAnn,
I just got 2 non-stop flights from Newark to STT me in early March for $445.00 each RT on Continental. The next cheapest flight had a layover in San Juan and was $250.00 more... flying same days and about the same times. I watched travelocity every day for a good month and when I saw flights there that might do, I went directly to the airlines website and they always seemed to be a little cheaper. I think it's a matter of watching and waiting and jumping on the fare when you see one that looks good. Also... think about other airports that you can drive to in a few hours and park for the week or so... sometimes it's cheaper to pay the parking and gas and do that.
Hope this helps.

crickett : )

We always seem to get better rates by going directly to the American Airlines website.

If you are fortunate enough to live near a JetBlue hub, they are often the cheapest way to get to San Juan.. and then book a commuter flight on American Eagle or Cape Air or Caribbean Sun to get to STX or STT. If you check JetBlue and they have flights from your area... but the website does not give San Juan as a possible destination from that location... it generally works to book a flight to JFK and then to SJU. There are half a dozen flights each day between JFK and SJU, so it's usually possible to make a connection.

Not only do they fly to SJU from JFK, but they are starting flights between SJU and Newark as well!

Yes, I have a friend in New Jersey who is eager for that to start. Meanwhile, you can't beat the $79 one way fares from San Juan to JFK. My fiance and I flew up for a play last weekend for my birthday. On other airlines, it would have been priced out of sight.

Hi Sandcrab!

We were lucky to get any time in the spring at all for our trip. Since we thought we were returning to St Croix this December (until hurricane Rita messed our plans up), we weren't thinking about when to get our vacation for next year and Kerrys co-workers had taken all the earlier spring days already. The earliest he could get will be at the end of April. Wish we could meet up with you, Calypso Katie, Joanne and her sister...:(
