DAY 6

Up at the crack of dawn as usual. one thing - we never heard the roosters crowing with our balcony doors shut (as many complain on tripadvisor).

We caught the 9 am ferry over to St John, ferry trip was lovely, left ontime and we sat on the top deck on the way over. Arrived 920 at Cruz Bay.

Took a taxi to Trunk, $6 per person and $4 admittance.

AMAZING BEACH - by far the BEST one we have EVER been on.

We all just LOVED St John - we'll be staying there in the near future!!

It was sunny and amazing all day. DH and I snorkelled. We only brought over a small cooler with water, so we bought sandwiches (one turkey one ham and cheese) from the small counter there - $8 each (which I thought was a bit high).

Snorkel trail - i think its over hyped. We saw much better aquatic life at both sapphire and secret harbor.

We stayed til 240 and caught a taxi back, again $6 each.

Couldnt believe we were able to catch the 3 pm ferry back to st thomas. arrived back in red hook at 330 pm.

Back at the condo by 4 pm.

Really would like to explore redhook more, and wish we could have walked aroufn cruz bay, but DS was tired and it was already a long day.

Back to the condo and then dinner at Room with a View.

I know its supposed to be on the best on island - and the view and service WAS amazing, but food was mediocre at best and overpriced. I dont know if I would go there again, unless it was for their happy hour special at the bar (which we couldnt go to bc of DS - cant sit at a bar).

DH got the eggplant parm, gma got the filet (good, $36), I got the chicken milanese and it was awful, horribly over fried. DS got the chicken parm - I had asked if they could make a smaller portion of it, or a kids sized version, and they said no ... they had no kids menu at all. But I understand its not a kids place - but i think they could have made a smaller portion.

My appetizer was VERY good - grilled portobella (saved my opinion of the place), gma got a shrimp cocktail.

We each had 2 drinks (2 red wines, 2 white wines, 2 drafts).

Bill was $178 before tip.

Besides the filet and my appetizer, food was not good. But view was amazing, and service was great.

Back to room after that for bed as we were all exhausted. We started to pack up our crapola and then crashed.

DAY 7 - OUR LAST DAY 🙁

Up again early to finish packing.

DH and I took DS to Lindburgh Bay for the morning while gma stayed at the pool.

Thanks to your advice - got the blue loungers for $6. Found the facilities there very nice and clean.

Didnt love the beach - but liked it alot. But I think Trunk spoiled us. Almost glad we went at the end of the trip to Trunk so we couldnt compare it all week.

DS loved watching the planes take off - so that was a highlight.

Left around 1130 am back to the condo, thankfully DS fell asleep in the car (we were worried about napping before we left for the airport). We went to the pool til 1230 then back to the condo for lunch and packing.

We left the condo around 2 pm and were sad to go. 🙁

Arrived at the airport at 220 (traffic in town) and dh dropped us off at the curb.

this is making me weep........... over a month now since I left............ can't stop thinking about the USVI and all I missed and did not see! I need to win the lottery and spend at least month there every year! There is so much more that I want to see! Thank you very much for the trip report!

we waited while DH returned the car from hertz. we had gotten the prepaid gas which worked for us as it was a cheaper price and they prorated it (we onlu used 3/4 tank).

we then checked into Jet Blue and thanks to the advice of the counter service worker hire a sky cab.

THIS IS IMPORTANT - bc we had the sky cab we skipped the ENTIRE customs line at the airport and went into a separate entrance where customs took us right away!! we had NO wait whatsoever.

After we went through customs, we then went into a separate security line and breezed right through.

All for $15 charge for the sky cab and a $5 tip - BEST $20 spent all trip.

From check into jet blue, customs and security, took us less than 30 minutes. AMAZING!

We will remember this for next time. Saw people in line and they said it took them an hour for customs alone.

Flight home left ontime and landed 30 miniutes early. Got to park and ride and was home by 3 am - yep a LONG day.

Your postings have been an invaluable tool for future USVI visitors and also for return visitors such as my wife and I. Our next trip beginning on May 6th will be our 6th visit to paradise! I've taken notes on which restaurants and beaches to patronize and which to avoid. Overall, an extremely informative series of message boards postings.
Thanks very much!
