*Hi - I will be taking my first trip to St Thomas next week and would like to visit various beaches around the island rather than just staying at the hotel beach....I'm wondering what amenities are available at Magen's Bay and some of the other beaches? We like to be able to rent chairs and really need umbrellas as I burn easily! Same question if we take a day trip to St John's? Thanks!

Carol: Beach hopping is a great idea! Magen's does have chairs for rent, but I don't know of umbrellas there- you can position yourself under the sea grape trees. Most of the hotel beaches will rent you a chair and an umbrella. They expect you to spend some $ on food and drink! On St John there are not as many amenities as most of the beaches are in the National Park. You might stop by K-Mart and buy yourself a beach chair to take with! Be careful with the sun AND the shade as the closeness to the equator makes for fierce rays...

you can rent chairs at Trunk Bay on St. John and at Coki on St. Thomas. Don't think either has umbrellas.

Similar to Trunk Bay you can rent chairs at Cinnamon Bay on St John too. Also at both, snorkle gear, wind surfers, small sailboats, etc. Food and drink too. I don't recall umbrella's, but there is plenty of natural shade available at all the beaches.
