My husband and I will be visiting the USVI's for this first time in Jan or Feb of 2010. We have been together 17 years and after the past year of crisis after crisis we want to renew our love to one another. Could you give me some suggestions for a beach renewal? We might have a few friends join us, but not many. Just starting to plan so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

Tina

Have you chosen an island yet - that would help. Also, knowing it is the peak of season are you planning a morning or evening renewal as some beaches are packed earlier than others and on some beaches people tend to linger longer.

Thank you for your response.
We are thinking either stt or stj and an evening ceremony.

The beach out front of your hotel might be fine -- especially in STJ at Caneel Bay
Prettyclip Point at Sapphire has a beautiful setting in the early evening on STT
Magens Bay in STT is a huge sandy stretch and dramatic setting
Depending on the time of year Secret Harbor can have a sunset and has a wonderful beachfront restaurant for dinner.
Congrats and you won't have a hard time finding a wonderful place for your renewal in the VI!

I agree with exit zero that you won't have a hard time finding a beautiful place for your renewal in the VI! My daughter got married on Magen's Bay this past June and it was beautiful! I posted some pictures on a thread posted on 7/9/2009 titled -
Posting for Larry5747, photos of daughter's STT wedding (just scan down the posts and you will see it)
Check them out, they are great! Also you might consider some help from a wedding planner, they also have renewal packages! I worked with Tina from Weddings the Island Way in St.Thomas. She was so helpful! Mention the Licatovich-Hawks wedding if you contact her, to let her know that I am still raving about her!!!!! It was hard being so far away, we live in Michigan, and she made everything so easy! She even had a gal come to our condo the morning of the wedding for hair and makeup - and trust me, it was very appreciated!!!!!
Well good luck and have a wonderful time with all of your planning!

🙂 Nancy

If you go in February, consider the annual renewal ceremony on Trunk Bay, STJ Valentine's Day afternoon. I ferried over once just to experience it... alot of joy in those folks eyes, made me smile to think how many years together the group had. You can possibly find an archived article on the Virgin Islands Daily News website.

I second the vow renewal at Trunk Bay on Valentine's Day, it's done free of charge by Anne Marie Porter and coordinated by the Dove family. It is an amazing scene to see all the people renewing their vows. We did it two years ago and hope to do it again this upcoming Feb. The ceremony takes place around 6pm if I remember correctly.

Thank you everyone!
The Feb ceremony sounds wonderful. I will research that.

Let me ask a silly question here: When you make a vow, isn't it forever? Why does it need to be renewed?

Though not in all cases, some relationships have with-stood great challenges and the couple simply want to renew their commitment to each other. I have to say after all of the weddings that I have done, Vow renewals are my favorites! I know the couple have been through thick and thin and STILL love each other! Vow renewals are simply letting each other know without a doubt, that they are still in love! How awesome is that!
Valentines Day is always a big wedding day as well as 7/07/07 and 8/08/08 and now 9/09/09. Personally, I would renew my vows on the same date as my original wedding, but this is me! I did a wedding on Trunk Bay a couple of weeks ago, it was beautiful!
Congrats to you with whatever you decide!!!!!!

My wife and I take out annual options on our anniversary annually. It has worked for 25 years no matter where we are.

Funny you should ask, EE, because whenever I've see threads about vow renewals I've been thinking people were renewing vows because the original vows had been broken, but I also used to think "Positive is how I live" bumper stickers were trying to put a favorable spin on the car owner's HIV status. 😀

The past year has been very very hard on our relationship, NOT that we broke our original vows, but that we stood by each other and didn't give up. We want to tell each other.....heres to another 17 years it was worth every bump! We are now on the wonderful road of bliss again.
