Hi all.

We're returning to STJ in June and thinking of spending a day on Jost by just ferrying over and doing our own thing (as opposed to a day sail, which we did last time). I'm wondering, if we ferry over, what're the options for getting over to White Bay or to the Bubbly Pond and then back again when it's time to leave? Are taxis prevalent? Would it be simpler/cost effective to rent a car for a day and if so are there rental agencies near the Foxy's drop off?

Thanks!

We ferried over to Jost, and there were taxis waiting at the dock to take us to White Bay. We asked them to be back at a certain time to take us to Foxy's so we could have lunch there before getting back on the ferry. They were there at the soggy dollar at the exact time we asked. I'm sure if you wanted to get over to the bubbly pool, a taxi will take you. since the island is only like 8 square miles (maybe less) they can take you where ever in 5-10 minutes, I would assume. It was one of the best days we had while there.

Thanks a lot, Moutaineer girl! Do you recall what the rough cost was for each way to White Bay and back to Foxy's? Or does anyone else know?

It was $5 each way I think, we gave a couple bucks extra. When they brought us back to Foxy's, they didn't take us all the way. They just pointed down the street and said "Foxy's is that way". It was like a 5 minute walk. and then 5 minute walk back to the ferry.

Just a side note - when we arrived on Jost, we were the last in line to go thru the "customs" and the taxi was full of people waiting to get to White Bay also, sitting in the back of the hot taxi. since we were the last in line, and the last to get on the taxi - we got to sit up front in the air conditioned part! Felt so sorry for those who sat in the heat waiting on us, ust to let us sit in the AC part. oh well heehee.

Also, be sure you have a pen in your beach bag when going over. I think no one on the ferry had a pen so we could have our papers filled out by the time we arrived. That's why it took so long (about 20-30 minutes) to get thru the customs thing.

I'm so jealous, I want to go back to Jost more than any other place. One of these years I would like to do a BVI vacation, and spend a night on Jost.

If you get the chance take Greg's Taxi. He's the guy with the Bronco/Blazer SUV. It's all decked-out - he's really friendly, and be sure to ask him to show you the DVD of a German documentary featuring him as a young man! It's fantastic.
