where in the world did they come from? I live in the Mid-west & have never seen a black chicken!!! There is a large tree by the bridge to no where and it was full of Roosters! If you live on the Island do you capture them for dinner? what about their eggs? I love the Cat Cafes, are they safe now? Can I bring kitty treats? My cats come running for Greenies...we call them cookies. STT, can you get Greenies on island?

Are you talking about black feathered chickens or actual black chickens (with black skin and meat and bones)? There are several different breeds of black feathered chickens--I assume any of the street chickens you see descended from one of these breeds (australops, black giants etc etc ...). There are black feathered chickens all over the islands, they are really not rare at all.

Edited to say: No, people don't really eat the street chickens in general. They roam free and are scrawny. I suppose people have caught them to eat, but I wouldn't eat one. They do lay eggs but unless you have a flock in your yard and you know where they keep their nests, then generally street chicken eggs are not eaten either (unless by stray dogs or cats). I used to have a flock of Chickens in the yard that just came with the property I rented. I fed them corn and On occasion I'd collect their eggs and give the eggs to my dogs, but I never ate them myself.

I don't think you get many eggs from roosters.

I know you don't get eggs from a rooster !! and they are black feathered chickens..We have a Military Base here, Arsenal Island, and it goes back to the Civil War.or beyond? When the President of France came for a visit, he brought black squirrels with him , I haven't seen them any where else. are you pulling my leg about black chickens having only black meat?
Re-day sail, it doesn't have to be a "sail" boat...I just lumped them all together

YEAH....see you Mon. !!!

There are black feathered chickens with normal meat (example of the Australop breed in following link):

They are found all over the world, are not rare and I'm sure there are some somewhere in the Mid-West (although they do a bit better in warmer climates)

There are black skin, meat, bone chickens that do not necessarily have black feathers:
