Hello all,

I was hoping I could get some advice from the local islanders. I am visiting in the end of July to St. Thomas and hoping to turn it into a stay. I have recently been sending out my resume for various positions. I have looked at career.vi daily and applied several places. I have a degree in General Business Administration and have a variety of past experience from working in a state prison to selling electronics at Best Buy, then waiting tables and so on. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this was a good way about getting a job even if I am currently living stateside. I intend to apply in person while I am there but I was hoping to make some type of connections before I got there in order to make it more than just a visit. Also if anyone knows how I could find a place with a roommate that is reasonable would be great. I have looked at some forums, craigslist, and message boards... Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated! Hope everyone has a great day!

For this type of job you will need to be on island. No employer will seriously consider you unless you are standing in front of him/her.

So I realized after posting this that it would probably be better suited for the vimovingcenter message board so sorry about that. Still any advice would be greatly appreciated. 😀

There can be quite a bit of turn-over in the shops in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Both my son, who was going to college there, and my daughter who moved there after graduating from San Diego State got jobs almost on-the-spot simply by walking into boutiques and asking.

I wish you success.

July is gonna be a bad month to be job hunting down here. It's in the middle of the low season. things dont start picking back up until sept. If you click on the cruise ship schedule you will see a graph. And fyi you will probably make more $$$ waiting tables or bartending than any kind of management or retail job. Got a job at the begining of low season in March and I have averaged $1000 a week just in tips that I don't have to claim. So the only thing I'm taxed on is my hourly wage.

If you are looking for any serious job then you must be here. Many may want you to have an address here. So once you line up a job then get a place. Line up a car. Get your paper work all in order.

I would not ship anything at all. Just come.

If you want a room then drop us a line at [email protected]. We rent guest rooms on the east end.

Good luck!
