Water Islander heading into STT tomorrow to rent a van with main purpose to go to Home Depot and Cost U Less. Got some friends visiting and they want to pile in and go too. So.........this is turning into a "combo" trip of sightseeing/lunch and "monthly-rent-a-car-shopping-day". We don't get off WI much but thought I would take them up to Mountain Top since it's now been restored to its glory. Then, would like to go to restaurant for lunch somewhere on the northside heading from MT in the direction of HD/CUL (spouse doesn't like to back-track.....gotta keep moving forward on the left!). Looking for something medium priced, good food, varied menu (we've got 6 people with different preferences and yes it's been a tough week at times trying to cook a meal that suits everyone). View would be nice but not necessary. Any ideas/recommendations?

Doing a little research, I'm thinking about Mahogany Run/The Grille or Bolongo Bay Resort/Lobster Grill. Anyone have any reviews on either one of those? The alternatives are many out on East End but I really didn't want to go all the way out to Red Hook.

The Grill at Mahogany gets good reviews. I have had good dinners there and many say lunch is excellent. The Lobster grill is also good but often does not open for lunch as the resort uses Iggy's for lunch so call and find out before you go. Iggy's is also good for lunch.

Well, thank you all! I can report that we had a wonderful day yesterday. Mountain Top is it's usual stunning view. I like what they've done with the place. MR/The Grille was superior. Food excellent, service excellent, moderately priced. Drinks were not any more or less $ than anywhere else. Frankly, the food was really, really good. We all got different things. One of our friends had the tomato basil soup of the day and would not stop raving about it. I had the Thai Lettuce Wrap with small spinach salad. Spouse is difficult to please and even HE enjoyed the meal, service, table space, everything. So, net/net, I recommend The Grille Room at Mahogany Run on St. Thomas.

I think Mountain Top is no where near it's former glory....it is one HUGE shop full of tee shirts, flip flops and kitschy tourist dust collectors. Gone are the beautiful water color paintings, the handmade jewelry and hand sewn and embroidered, painted or dyed shirts etc. I was soo disappointed to find the commercialism of the place. The view is as gorgeous as ever however. Just sayin...you can't go home again...(td)
