For renting a car on STJ, I think I have narrowed my choices down to Conrad Sutton and Courtesy. Conrad Sutton seems to have a little lower rental rate. Other than that are there any significant differences between the two? For those who have rented from both which do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

Conrad seemed to have the newer vehicles. Both have their own little idiosyncrasies which I take as "island time". As long as you don't charge in expecting mainland 'get em in get em out' service you will not have issues with either one. You don't have a bus to catch and you are on a relaxing vacation so sit back and enjoy the scenery while you wait for them to get your car ready.

We've rented from Conrad Sutton 10 or so times with great results. Others have had problems. Our secret to getting along is to be polite, say Good Day and treat the vehicles like Mr. Sutton personally owns them (he does). If you come in on a Saturday they will be very busy. Take your time and relax.

Cheers, RickG

We rented from Courtesy while we were down there in October. They were great until we dropped our vehicle back off when we were ready to leave. They said there was a spot on the front bumper that was not there when we picked it up. I don't believe it was there when we rented it, but then again there was so many dings, bumps, rust spots and scratches all over the vehicle who could tell. When we did our first inspection I kept pointing them all out and he said it was fine and didn't write it down. I did not buy their rental insurance since it was covered on my own insurance policy. When the guy started complaining about it when we dropped off the vehicle , I whipped out my camera and took pictures of it and by the time my plane landed at home, they had called and said it was fine. My insurance company said they would fight them on it if it came to it, but it never did. Whatever it was it would have buffed out very easily. You can't even see it on my pictures. Just keep that in mind. I wonder if they do that to everyone that does not buy their extra insurance. I loved their location since it was so convenient, but it left a bad taste in my mouth how the trip ended with them. I may or may not rent from them again.

Thanks to those who have replied! Has anyone else had an experience like lisab when returning a vehicle after not getting the extra insurance? If so, which rental agency and what was the outcome? Sounds like I should whip out my camera and take pictures before driving off the lot!

Thanks!

I will definitely do that the next time and I will make sure they see me taking them.
