HI everyone! I have been reading some of the comments and loving it. I am going on a cruise in May 2005 and am sooo excited. We stop at St. Martin and St. Thomas. I am sure there are a lot of wonderful places to see, but I only have one day. What should be top on my list of things to see? This will be my first time to the islands and I am way excited - can you tell? I can't wait! : )

Rent a car for the day and see/do it all! Get the car at Budget right across from Havensight first thing in the a.m. and drive up to Paradise Point and see the view/have a Bushwacker (also see Sean at the Pirate's Chest for a 15% Discount), go to the overlook to see the town and harbor, Drake's Seat, Mountain Top, then go hang out at Magens Beach, Coki Beach, Coral world (have the "Ole Wife" for lunch at Uncle Buddy's on Coki), Red Hook (gotta stop at Duffy's!), then back to town for some shopping. That should take up all of your day!

Thanks Marty! Those are great suggestions for St. Thomas. Anyone have any suggestions for St. Martin?

We did a similar cruise last summer, and St. Martin was our favorite day. We rented a jeep. My family (wife and 4 kids!) crammed into one open-topped jeep. All four kids crammed into the backseat. Not the safest by US standards, but we had a blast! We roamed around stopping at several beaches. We got lost. We stopped in the French capital and had lunch at a great cafe. We found a beach in a place called "Long Bay" that we had all to ourselves and spent a couple of hours playing in the surf.

On the way back to the ship, we got semi-lost again trying to get around the airport, but that turned out to be one of the highlights of the day. We ended up on on a road that goes right past the end of the runway. We were stopped by a traffic cop because they have to close this road when jumbo jets land or take off. We sat in the jeep for about 15 minutes as a big Air France 747 taxied out to the end of the runway...probably only a 200 feet from out jeep. It revved its engines and then took off in a deafening roar! We watched it take off and then held our breath as it immediately climbs and banks sharply to miss the mountains. Its an impressive site. Others around us said that watching landings from this road is even more impressive than take-offs, as the planes come practically right over your head.

Sorry, I know this is a Virgin Islands board, but I had to throw my 2 cents in about St. Maartin.

Thanks! Great info! I guess I have my geography mixed up between the two places. Please help me set it straight. I am new to this travel thing.
