We've booked St. Thomas and like to dance Salsa. Where exactly can we do that?

St Croix 🙂

As of today there isn't a dedicated salsa club in St Thomas (well, not a "tourist friendly" one anyway). Most of the places that have dancing play some latin during the night both salsa and merengue.

thx for your answer...
what do you mean with: tourist friendly?

It's nicer anyway if there are not so many tourists.
So where are these clubs exactly?

By "tourist friendly" I mean places that cater primarily to tourists and have certain amenities US tourists expect - relatively clean restrooms, easy access from a main road, discreet security, and speak English.

There is a large Spanish population in St Thomas - mostly from the Dominican Republic. They have clubs and bars scattered around the island, and I heard specifically that one near Victor's New Hideout (close to Best Western Emerald Beach) has salsa. I've never been, but I'll ask the person who mentioned it to me if he has. Maybe somebody else on this board will know of the place, and can give first hand info.

great first info! Thanks a lot.

So we have the first location:
""Near Victor's New Hideout (close to Best Western Emerald Beach)""

Can you set a pin on http://maps.google.de/ ?
That would be great.

Actually... we also have some different bars here and the Spanish or Latino driven Salsa bars are the best because they are so authentic. For others it's hard to reach that.

thx so much

ps. if there are any other Salsa bars or locations... please post.

I will try to go by the place this weekend and get more info. There's another place I'm thinking maybe that's not too far from the other place, so I'll check there, too. I've been wanting to try the food at that place anyway, so I'll make some inquiries.

A "pin on google maps?" That'll be a first for me! I'll also check with some Spanish taxi drivers to see what they might recommend. When are you coming?

There's another Spanish nightclub I thought of - La Bamboushay. This one is on a main road with plenty of parking next to Eulla F. Muller Elementary School.

It's in a row of Spanish bars and eateries, with one bar outdoors with a wooden floor. You hear the music playing all the time. I went to one of those eateries yesterday, and asked if there was dancing at La Bamboushay. One of the ladies said they play music at night, and if you want to dance, dance. But when I asked them about a place for dancing, they recommended the "tourist friendly" Greenhouse.

You'll see this area on your way into town from the airport - it's on the left at the intersection just as you pass Nisky Center on the right. You should be able to hear the music.

Hi:

I frequent T Restaurant, next to Bamboushay, pretty regularly. People do dance at Bamboushay on occasion, sort of, but nah, for the kind of dance action you're probably thinking of, I wouldn't really recommend it.

Best,

Islandlola

So, is there any place on this island where someone can dance mostly latin?

look here:
http://maps.google.de/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=de&msa=0&msid=111629092262125170572.000439d7409a45bcd40c4&ll=18.33759,-64.95276&spn=0.002765,0.005032&t=h&z=18&om=1

I marked Nisky Center, so Bamboushay is not so far. Could you look at this map (2nd deepest zoom) and describe where exactly it is. Then I can place the pin exactly...
thx
Christopher

Your pin is next to the Towers Condominiums. La Bamboushay is directly to the right of that at the second gray roof . The little white building below it is one as well. I would suggest Stereo in Frenchtown on weekends. He has a good selection and plays salsa regularly between his other house and soca mixes. You will sooner find our music, calypso and soca, available which has a similar beat to salsa and can be danced just as well. There is also a new reggae club opening right now that I trust will play the calypso and soca..

ok... then I try to sum up:

1. La Bamboushay, Parking Ulla F. Muller Elementary School, near Nisky Center. (exact address?)
2. xxx Salsa Bar, Near Victor's New Hideout (close to Best Western Emerald Beach), 8070 Lindbergh Bay (Name and exact address).
3. Greenhouse, Veteran's Drive, Charlotte Amalie, Phone (340) 774-7998(exact address?).
4. Dominican Salsa Bar, Route 38, Weymouth Rhymer Highway (Name and exact address?).

I've tried to pin them on a google map. Perhaps we can pin together the exact house by exact description.
Here is the map:
http://c-salsa.blogspot.com/2008/01/salsa-map-st-thomas-usvi-virgin-islands.html
... just zoom in to the second deepest level and you can see every single house.

thx

Coppy- It would be great if you would put together a group of GE placemarks for STT "latin" danceclubs...my wife loves to go out dancing and we are heading over to STT/STJ in June. I tried your map link but didn't see any pushpins/placemarks.

Have you thought about using Google Earth Community to share the location placemarks? Look at the links I created for STJ items of interest...if you want to do something like this I would glad to help you...Cheers-

@Sherban
I like your map and we will probably meet in one of the Salsa bars in June 😉

...good idea with GE and will do it over the time... have to install it first.

The very first step would be to find the bars precisely. I still need some exactly descriptions of islanders...
here are they again:

1. La Bamboushay, Parking Ulla F. Muller Elementary School, near Nisky Center. (exact address?)
2. xxx Salsa Bar, Near Victor's New Hideout (close to Best Western Emerald Beach), 8070 Lindbergh Bay (Name and exact address).
3. Greenhouse, Veteran's Drive, Charlotte Amalie, Phone (340) 774-7998(exact address?).
4. Dominican Salsa Bar, Route 38, Weymouth Rhymer Highway (Name and exact address?).

Here is the map:
http://c-salsa.blogspot.com
... just zoom in to the second deepest level and you can see every single house.

... btw. we actually have a fast internet connection... so if you don't see any pins just wait... they will come.
Perhaps you can help to find the bars exactly, also... Sherman

Thx a lot for your answer. I already thought sth. like that. That was the reason why I made up the GoogleMap. Just describe where it is exactly. Here is the link with the 4 Salsa bars. Here is the link:
http://c-salsa.blogspot.com/2008/01/salsa-map-st-thomas-usvi-virgin-islands.html

thx for your help

I don't think there's a "Dominican Salsa Bar" on Weymouth Rhymer. Where did you get that info?

I think I have the name for the first place I mentioned (near Victor's New Hideout). I'll try to call them today or this week for more info. Let's hope someone speaks English!

I wondered if Coppy was thinking of the DR strip on Turpentine Run. Coppy, these bars frequently have something *extra* besides music and drinks...

Coppy- I still can't see your locations pins, not sure why...

Anyway, I thought I would mention how I have done this "place location thing" in the past... What I would do is do a image capture from Google Earth (GE) and then size it to be 600 pixels or less wide then post it to photobucket.com then post the image here and ask someone who knows where the place is to tell me which building it is using references from the photo I posted...it has worked pretty well for me...

Here's an example photo post, any good Latin dance places in this photo? If not where?...
