We were looking to go to STJ in May '06 but a friend of a friend who recently returned from there said dining was EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. She said that a burger meal was on average $50 per person. Now I dont actually know this person so I dont know if I trust what she is saying. Is this true????

You can look at all sorts of menus..and prices...online...and I don't see how you can spend $50 for a hamburger unless you add in the cost of LOTS (and I mean LOTS) of booze and a 100% tip

Dining on St. John is expensive but not that expensive. A burger meal (that means with french fries or something else) runs $8 - $9. A coke is a couple bucks....so when my husband and I go out for lunch it is roughly $25 - $30. Dinner is a whole different story. The inexpensive restaurants run around $18 - $25 for an entree while the more exclusive ones run around $35 - $40 for an entree. Wine is expensive and the selection at the inexpensive restaurants is minimal but passable. Of course at your better restaurants you'll have a better selection.

I thought that sounded bizarre. I think the person who told me this was trying to talk me out of going here, although I don't know why. It is someone who would be attending my wedding and paying for themselves, and they are BIG drinkers. I think they were hoping I would pick an all-inclusive resort and when I didnt tried to scare me! Thanks for you help!

Hi,
A burger and fries at Morgans Mango, and by the way a fabulous one at that, is $10.00. A cheeseburger at Skinny's - $8.50. I'm thinking your friend had loads of alcohol to enjoy with their burgers 🙂 If you are looking for inexpensive places to eat don't forget Uncle Joes BBQ - excellent food, large portions and only $10 - $12.

April9,
Somebody's yankin' your chain and obviously doesn't know what he/she's talking about. Don't be deterred. STJ is a great place for a wedding or any other reason you can think up for a trip.

Sounds like a burger, some fries, a captain & coke, a bushwacker, another bushwacker and a taxi ride home.

The prices in StJ is no more expensive then good restaurants in the NY area. You can eat very reasonable as many of the previous replies have stated and also offer finer dining in many areas.
