My fiance and I bought our airline tickets from Orbitz back in January to go to STX in June. These tickets start us out of PIT on Delta and then change to American Airlines in SJU. I was calling AA to ask about the airline change and they informed me my Delta itinerary had changed and that I had a misconnect at SJU. Can you imagine missing our flight to STX at SJU on our wedding night?? I called Delta and after being put on hold for nearly an hour I finally got our tickets straightened out (I hope!) Delta told me to check back with them again periodically for any other changes. Whew! And I thought we were planning wisely to get the tickets early! Just a word of warning.

Were going to St.John next June and was going to start looking at tickets this September but maybe I will wait. I think Im going to try to stay on 1 airline though. I heard Northwest services St. Thomas now straight from Detroit.

I have had similar experiences with airlines changing itineraries. I don't think it matters much when you buy the ticket, they change things whenever they want to. It can be a nightmare to get things worked out. One time I had to cancel our flights with American and rebook on another airline. The thing that happened was AA did not issue me a refund as they promised, they sent me vouchers for a future flight. I ended up with two sets of tickets to STX becuase I booked a new set of tickets on USAir. It only took about 5 hours worth of phone calls to AA, about 6 lengthy emails and a 4 month wait to get my refund. Everything worked out but it was a very aggravating ordeal.

Does it make a difference if you use a travel agent?

We got a call 9:30 at night before our 7 AM flight that it would be delayed do to the crew needing more rest time????? We would not make our connection. Fortunately we knew of a better flight at a closer airport on the same airline ( didn't book it because it was $200 more). We insisted they change us to that flight. Daughter also had a flight change due to a mechanical problem and would miss the wedding she was attending. After demanding they find her a flight on another airline they did. You need to check your phone messages & be VERY demanding until you get what you want/need.

Kaz,
So you are connecting to American Eagle (AA "commuter" airline) in SJU? If so go to the AA website periodically & keep an eye on the AE schedule also. If needed Cape Air is an excellent alternative.

A couple months ago, I purchased direct flights (Delta) from Columbus to Boston RT $118, good deal. Well, I looked at our itenerary a month later - the trip back was changed. Instead of non-stop back, they had us going to Atlanta to get to Columbus! crazy. so I called, the flight back (operated by Comair) had changed its time from 8:30 to 2:00pm, and in order to get us home at the original time, they had come up with that scenerio. I said no I definitely want the non-stop flight, even if its later, so they changed it. They said I would have received an e-mail about it closer to the time of the flight. Hello??? after the flight that I want is already booked? So glad I decided to check ahead of time. Why do they ask for a phone # if they arent' going to call you the day something changes? You really have to stay on top of these airlines, and like someone else said, be demanding when you talk to them about what you want.

NWA only has direct flights to STT on Saturdays mid-Jan thru the end of April. I've been lobbying hard for several years for more flights as we always go down the last week of April or first week of May so we miss on the direct flights. Sure would be nice to fly down and avoid Charlotte, Newark or Chicago.

Anyone else know of direct flights for June? From Detroit straight into St. Thomas? Thanks, Leslie
