Hello ! My husband and I are planning our first trip to St. John for a 35th wedding anniversary. We are staying in a villa at Ditleff Point. I am worried about the ferry ride from St. Thomas to St. John as I get motion sickness and take Dramaminet to fly. I have heard the ferries referred to as "Barf Barge"... Is this accurate and will Dramamine work or those Sea Bands ?

Flight schedules are better from Atlanta to St. Crox, but I didn't see where we could take a ferry from St.Croix to St. John. Does anyone have any suggestions about flyingi in and out of these islands ? Thanks !

Micki

the ferry ride from st thomas to st john is a smooth ride. depending on your arrival to stj you can either take the ferry from red hook or charlotte amalie. you should be fine!

Dont worry, my wife is the same way(sea sickness). The first time she rode the ferry she was very nervous, but made it ok(without Dramamine). She's been on it numerous times since and hasn't had a problem. The ride is usually pretty smooth. She even drove on the car barge last year and enjoyed it(we'll be doing it again in March). You'll probably be better off taking the ferry out of Red Hook as it's a shorter ride to St John(20 minutes I think)compared to Charlotte Amalie(40 minutes or so). Good luck and have fun.

I hope you don't get car sick. The ride from the airport to Red Hook is enough to make anybody sick. I would rather have a short ride in a car to Charlotte Amalie with longer ride on ferry any day.

I believe it is the STT to STX ferry that is sometimes referred to as the Barf Barge. The CA -Cruz Bay ferry can be a little bouncy arount the south end of STT but not too terrible, the Red Hook to Cruz Bay ferry is a smooth ride unless the wind is blowing

Kaleidoscope Villa? If so, I'm extremely jealous. That villa is to die for! Have a wonderful vacation.

Seeing as you're renting on Ditliff, why go on the cheap? Get in touch with Rachael of Rachael's Taxi. A private service. No need to get crammed in a van full of strangers with a driver who will probably make you sick. Rachael is wonderful. Give her a call at 340-771-2986. Enjoy the ride to Red Hook. Also there is a private water taxi service called Dohm's. Don't do it. If you get motion sick this would definitely make you turn green. It's a small boat & you feel the waves. You also sit on benches with little padding. We did it once & IMO it was a waste of money. Also PM me for a tip you'll appreciate.
