Ok fellow VI-lovers, help me out PULEEZE. I was thinking how nice it'd be to have a beach chair (you know, the sit-low-to-the-ground, ideally it reclines) type of chair that everyone carts to the beach for our coming trip to STJ. But I was hoping these existed in a fold-up-and-put-in-a-bag variety that you can sling over your shoulder for really easy carrying around.

The only place I've found anything like this has been promo places, where you order a minimum of 24 (or like quantity) with a company logo printed on them. Cannot find these in a basic retail establishment. It's something along these lines:

Does anyone know where you can buy something like this? I know most chairs come with a strap and you just fold up chair and put over shoulder but this is bulky to me. I'd love one like this that goes into a bag for easy transportation down and around STJ. I'd love any suggestions, if someone's found these. Many thanks!

They are also at K-Mart, Tutu Mall, STT. Go to the outdoor recreation area near the fishing equipment, top shelf. We purchased our chairs (with the foot-rest) there two weeks ago. Price: $24.00.

Two weeks ago Cost-U-Less did not have them in stock (yet). (We did buy them there too, 3 years ago.)

They're great for the beach....and you just put them back in the bag and keep in the truck of your car.

I searched google and found pages of the chair like you had from promopeddler. The cheapest was about 12 bucks.

Thanks for all the good advice. I'd hoped to have these chairs already purchased before heading down there but since I only find them on places like promopeddler that requires a minimum order of 24, I will revise plan and try to purchase at Kmart or Cost-U-Less on STT.

We intend to taxi from airport to CA ferry when we arrive (mid-day) so I'm only worried about the Kmart or Cost-U-Less being significantly out of the way. How much of a stretch is it to hope a driver will swing us through these stores and wait while we run in? Is either store close to or along the route between airport and Charlotte Amalie Ferry?

Thanks again for assistance!

I live in California and they apparently have them at Costco because I saw two in someone's cart today. I was in a hurry (I was on my lunch hour) and I didn't have time to track them down in the store... so I didn't get to see the price.

I'll make sure to check it out next time I go however (in a few days).

You'll probably need a private taxi. The K-Mart (at Tutu Mall) is not far from Cost-U-Less....about a 20 minute ride from the airport (depending on traffic). However, there is a K-Mart in town, but I don't recall seeing the fold-up chairs there (but I wasn't looking for them, either). If you venture to the Tutu Mall, for your purchase, you can catch the ferry to STJ from Red Hook rather than return to town.

Also, pick up your liquor (and other items) at either K-Mart or Cost-U-Less....it's cheaper on STT than STJ.

Have a great trip.

I bought two low-to-the-ground beach chairs in a bag about 6 years ago at my local NY K-Mart for about $10 each. The bag strap slings over the shoulder to carry the relatively lightweight chairs. I've never seen them since, nor have I seen anyone else on any beach with anything like them. They are easy to pack in my duffel for my annual Virgin Islands trip.

Gerie:

We love them!

We have the chairs with the foot rest.....so it's like a recliner.

It beats paying $5.-$10./day for a chair rental.

Thrilled to say that I found these chairs at Walmart today. Started out looked in the camping area and all they had were the standard size chairs in a bag, not the low-to-ground type I wanted. Took a chance and perused the outside garden center around all the patio furniture. There, I found the chairs I was looking for. There were quite a few of the standard beach chairs that don't bag-up, but then I spotted a box that held several of the bagged variety. The picture on the box showed what appeared to be a standard size fold out chair but it was tagged as a "beach chair." So I hauled one out and set it up and sure enough, this one sat fairly low. It has a padded upper back, armrests and a drink holder. Offered in bright lime green and bright pink.

So, anyone else looking - check out your local Walmart garden center. Costs (in Atlanta) $14.96 each.

You could also try Sam's club or BJ's club.
