We are visiting St. John in October and wondered about bringing meats and cooking some in our villa. Does anyone have any tips to share on this? Items to bring? Items we can get there? Expenses vs. hassle of each? Thanks!

Well, we're wheels up in 5 days and I have a freezer with some goodies in it. I keep hearing that everything is available and the proces aren't too bad, but we're bringing some stuff anyway. We're packing 3 dinners worth of meats (my special birthday steaks are included in it) as well as coffee and a cake mix (for said birthday feast). a tip I got was to bring Frozen concentrated OJ. It serves as ice for the trip and then is 100% consumable once you arrive. We have a soft-sided cooler on wheels that we're bringing.

For us, I don't tink we're really saving much, but I didn't want to spend any extra time in the store. Plus, I'm a nutcase and, even if on vacation, have to have some things just right...especially for my BIRTHDAY!!!!

We brought steaks, marinated chicken breasts, shrimp, house special burgers and some sausage. All frozen and added some dry ice in a soft sided shoulder cooler (Walmart $10). I have heard mixed reviews on frozen concentrate (leaking, etc.) but that probably depends on time from home to villa. We had to spend a night on STT, and the dry ice worked great.
As we had our costly food with us, I really did not compare prices, but they did seem higher. Bought fresh fruits, veg, etc. at Star Market in Cruz. Great butter rum muffins.

Enjoy

Hmmm...maybe I'll seal the FCOJ's in a bag just in case they leak. It's under 12 hours for us from door to door so I don't think melting will be a big deal.

Butter rum mufins? I'll have to look for those

Prices are high on St.John food wise , the more the people you have with you , then I would reccomend bringing meats ,spices, cereals, anything thats just gota haves and also shampoos etc are very high there. I paid 8.00 for pinyt of eadys ice cream 3.00 here., The resturants are also very costly I was alone so it wasnt to bad ,but I cant imagine a whole family 3 times a day wow! there is a subway there , for cheap eats
I did breakfast in my villa, lunch( sandwiches & fruits) on the beach and dinner out thats how I saved. my frozen meats were fine after 5 hours travel ..good luck and happy travels,,
