We have 38 days to our wedding and that means 39 till we arriveon STJ 🙂 Believe it or not I am more freaked out about STJ then the wedding. I really love STJ and I am driving myself crazy sweating all the details because I want my fiancee to adore it as much as I do...so he will want to go back and maybe even move us there!! Please calm me down! I am freaking out about the time between our flights..we fly from Pittsburgh to Atlanta and Atlanta to STT , but in ATL we only have 40 mins between flights...I didnt realize this! I would rather be waiting around for 2hours then panick about missing a flight UGH! Also last time I was on STJ I bought my snorkel and mask from the gift shop attached to Skinny Legs...it was cheap and worked beautifully...I am living on a prayer we can do that again....does anybody know if they are still selling them there...also if not were can we buy cheap sets, we dont want 100's of dollars in them since we are still new at this...maybe when we move down there 🙂 we will invest in the good ones! I always traveled as a nanny and never had to sweat any details myself so this is a huge step for me! And about cash, whats a good daily budget...for 2...possibly eating lunch out and dinner to...drinks at a minimal and big adventures every couple days....is 200 a day unreasonable? OMG I need medication! Sorry Guys!

Re:flights...some airlines allow same day standby for free, or same day flight change confirmation for a fee (?$25). There may not be any more flights from ATL to STT that day, but are there earlier flights from Pittsburgh to ATL? If there are, you could investigate whether they may be booked up. If there are seats available the day of the flight, perhaps you could take an earlier flight to ATL (thereby increasing your cushion at ATL). It would probably cost more to change it in advance, but it may be worth it if it would give you some peace. In some airports, I would have no problem with a 20 minute connection, but the ATL airport is quite busy, and a short delay could be a problem in making the second flight. The airline website can give you info on the other flights as well as how packed they are already.

And worse case scenario, you have a fascinating adventure story to tell when it is over! May even be more fun to weather the storm together, so to speak. Good luck!

Dont worry be happy
you get to go back
Depending on what you want to do i would bring at least that much per day with me as you will find wanting to do more once you have arrived
If worse comes to worse pack your snorkel gear that what we did and it worked out great

Good luck on your upcomming vows and honymoon and let us all know how it was when you get back

Congrats

Oh my! I sense the stress in your email! Breathe in, breathe out. If you fiance loves you (which must be the case :-), then he will love St. John! Don't sweat the details!

I would do as C C Mom suggests, go standby on an earlier flight to ATL or see if you can just change it now. Usually it's a $100 change fee, which that $200 sounds like a small price to pay for your potential stress.

I don't know if Skinny Legs still has snorkel gear specifically, but there are plenty of places in STJ to buy a nice, cheap set that will work for you!

Where are you staying?

Thanks for the thought...I never considered going on standby...hummm I will have to look into that. We are staying at the villa "Mayan Sky"..a favorite of mine, much bigger than what we actually needed but I was all about staying where I have been since this is my first time leaving the "states" on my own...I know it's still a US property but for some reason I am nervous....probably just because I have no nerves left after all this planning. One thing did go well today though, I hadn't booked a jeep yet and started to panick that I waited to long but I did find one a Bougain Leasing...so that worked..Thank God. I can't wait for the fiancee to see the islands he's never been out of Ohio (except Pittsburgh twice) and he's never flown..should be interesting! I LOVE u islanders!

Relax - Close your eyes (NOT YET) picture yourself laying beside your fiance on the beach at Trunk Bay!! The warm sun, the crystal blue water...you have nothing to worry about. Everything will work out - plus, worrying won't help.

If you are anything like me (and I trust you are) - everything has been planned and you have all of your lists ready for the big day. The last thing you should be worrying about is your honeymoon. You only get married once, stop and smell the roses and enjoy this special time. My husband and I married last September and honeymooned on STT. You both will have a fabulous time and your husband WILL fall in love with the islands. I havent met anyone that has ever been that hasnt. I call it an addiction! We are going back this summer around our first anniversary.

Treasure this time - Try not to worry.

Hugs
Jen

Meredith,
It will all work out. $200 for lunch & dinner could work if you do some reasonable meals. Joes BBQ for dinner one night is one of my favorites & cheap! We bought great sandwiches at Mongoose Junction deli (name escapes me) on the way to the beach...great & resonable. All that and a few drinks would be way less than $100. Of course it is your honeymoon & you can throw in a few "nice" romantic meals that may be costly.

ATL is a large airport and your arrival gate and deprature gate can be very far apart so I also think it's worthwhile to investigate switching to an earlier PIT to ATL flight.

Slow deep breaths, lol. Try to remember the "island time" feeling you had while you were on STJ last and go there! Don't let your stress about the details infiltrate your trip and your island vibe or this trip will never measure up... what he'll love is what YOU loved about it, the laid back, no worries, relax into a warm, relaxed person that you didn't know existed place. Slow deep breaths, it's gonna be just as wonderful as you remember.

Meredith,
You sound like me!! A worried planning vacation nut. That is me...omigosh. I am also from Ohio...Northeast...near Youngstown. Where are you from? We always fly out of Pitt...and i hate the ATL airport...what a disaster. And Delta airlines! My worst fears came true last month when we were flying home from Vegas with a layover in ATL. Our plane was late...( we had 35 minutes between flights) ran 100 mph through the airport (not kidding!) made it and realized the gate had shut and watched our plane pull out with out us. TERRIBLE. It wouldve been worse if we were heading out for vacation, but we did wanna go home. W e eventually made it like 8 hours later...but it was a nightmare. But...dont stress youll be fine...esp if your plan is on time..40 minutes is enough time to get where you need to be. Good luck with your wedding and let us know!
