As I posted earlier in the week, we will be on the Island April 4th. I definitely want to shop, shop and eat!!!! all in that order. What's the best way to get around and are the local stores within walking distance of the docks?

I am assuming you are coming on a cruise. There are different areas the boats dock, I think. If you are at Charlotte Amalie, you will have tons of restaurants and shops to choose from. It's all right there, and if you are looking to get little "island" souvenirs, the blue tents are right there. (be wary of the Tshirts! But a GREAT place to buy cute beach bags!) I have only been to Havensight (sp?) once and it was to jump on a day sail boat(The Doubloon) but there were shops there, too. If you dock at Crown Bay, you can jump on a taxi and get dropped.
I am sure there are others that can tell you better, but I hope that helps.

The majority of the shopping and eating places are in downtown Charlotte Amalie. You'll want to take a taxi there. Once in the area, you can walk to hundreds of stores and eateries. You'll want to take a taxi back to the dock. It CAN be walked, but you'll be tired by the time you get to the shopping district, and from the tone of your post you'll need to reserve your energy for the real fun!

New Yorker,
I saw that you were renewing your vows with www.weddingstheislandway.com at Megan's! Good choice!
I am one of their coordinators and love working for them! I am guessing that you are renewing your vows fairly early in the morning? Depending on your time, you could be dropped off at Indigo restaurant for lunch and then take a taxi from there into town to do your shopping! Once you know what dock you will be coming in on, you will be-able to make a better decision as to where you will shop. I like town as it is an area of history. The interior is a must see at A.H.Riise Gift and Liquor. Who knows, maybe I will be your coordinator! Congrats! 🙂

New Yorker, Indigo is a lovely restaurant with fairly good food, but if I were you, I'd eat in town where you have more choices. In town you can eat local food at Gladys' or Cuzzin's, or you can have continental food at Cafe Ameci, The Greenhouse, Tavern on the Waterfront, etc.

You'll definitely want to shop in town, like Sherri suggests. Again, town has more variety than Havensight, and the shops are easier to navigate. From town to either the Havensight or Crown Bay dock, the taxi fare will be approx $4 per person each way.
