What is considered 'local' for the islands? I'm trying to figure out what is reasonable there to purchase and what I need to bring with me. Thanks in advance!

You can get most everything -- you just pay more. We found things like cheese to be riduculously high -- and often produce is old/sad-- but, if you treat it like vacation, and just buy what you need, it is still cheaper than going out.
However, please don't cook in the whole time -- the restaurnats on STJ have gotten much better and you can get really fine meals (not cheap, but keep repeating "this is my vacation")
Also, keep inmind that the house really can heat up when you cook -- leaving all feeling kinda beat -- so go out and enjoy! Save the cooking for breakfast and snacks, IMHO!
