What's the nearest Grocery store near Red Hook? Is there a better one a little bit further away?
Looking at breakfast items, milk, bread, eggs, chicken (not Live LOL), beer, and such.
Thanks
Rich

Plaza Extra is one of the nicest and cleanest grocery stores on the island. They have a pretty good selection. Take Redhook Road and go east about 3 to 4 miles.

Rich,

I like your saying, "I am not surviving live, I am living life".

Mine is "Life is not a dress rehearsal, what are you waiting for". I'm not sure where I heard it, but it makes sense to me.

Marina Market is right there in Red Hook. They are an excellent choice for bakery and deli. For basics, Food Center is just down the road about 5 minutes before you get to Red Hook as you are coming from downtown. It is less expensive than the market and a good choice for packaged and canned food items, beverages and beer.

I'm with schultz, we tend to go to Food Center for bigger shopping trips and Marina Market for smaller occasional items. There is parking at both, but Marina Market's is small.

But, gotta love the Plaza Extra radio spots on WSTX - "Pla Za has All that You need!" Hit reggae.vi for a fix.

Cheers, RickG

Food Center has next to nothing in the way of fresh veggies, their meats look mighty suspicious much of the time and their prices are, for the most part, rather higher than Plaza Xtra. although they sometimes have some wine deals. I'm pretty much midway between Plaza Xtra and Food Center but it's a no contest for me. Cheers!

Sorry, my mistake so I thought that I would point it out. Food Center is the grocery store that I ment to reccommend, not Plaza Extra that is in the Tutu Mall by Kmart. Food Center is much nicer and cleaner, very important to me when I'm shoppping for food. VTX1300, Food Center is the grocery store that is 3-4 miles east on Red Hook Road.

Sorry for my mix-up,

Molly

Been to all of the stores mentioned and in mho, The Marina Market is the most convenient and just about everything. If you are in Red Hook it's just not worth the time to travel around price shopping to save a couple bucks. Only caveat is that we stop at cost-u-less on the way in for bulk stuff we use during our two weeks, like bottled water and such. Marina Market has a great selection of fresh produce, meat and fish. Very good deli and bakery items and booze, beer and wine. It's your one stop shop for sure. I also found the prices to be very competitive and sometimes cheaper than the big stores. I have seen the day charters and excursions out of American Yacht Harbor and elsewhere get provisions here. That says a lot to me.
