My son just called me from Afghanistan. He will be coming home while we're in St Thomas this summer and is planning on coming down to visit up for a week or so. He asked me if there is any place that does sky diving down there. So there is the question. I don't recall anyone ever bring that one up on this board.

Thanks,
Rick

I've seen lot's of parasailing on the island. In addition to this board I would also check with the local airport to see if they have any skydiving clubs. To be honest, the island is pretty heavily populated and I'm not sure if you can land on water, I'd be afraid of getting tangled in my chute or landing in traffic.

Congratulations on your son, I assume that he is serving with the US Military. My son will be leaving for his pre Iraq training next month. I tried to talk him into transferring to the National Guard here in STT, he would have no part of it. He wants to serve with his unit.

My son is a skydiver...the closest jump center is in Aricebo, Puerto Rico. He goes there once or twice every year for the "boogies", sort of like a convention for skydivers. It was just in February.

Thanks for the info. I will pass it along to him. This Afghanistan tour was his first. His brother finished his second Afghanistan tour last year around this time. Molly, thank your son for me and my family. You should be very proud of him. Too many of those around us put their own needs ahead of their duty. We all owe them a huge thank you. Remember, the next time you see a vet to walk up and thank them for their service as well.

Maybe he can persuade American Airlines to do a HALO Jump into Trunk Bay 😉
The customs folks at Cruz Bay would freak:D
and you could probably get one of those parking spots next to Woody's where the police cars always sit as they rush out of town 😉
He does let me know - I am coming to watch 😎

Tell him thank you and welcome home!

Thank you for your comments. My first son that was in Afghanistan twice was with the 173rd Airborne and Special Forces 7th Group on the second time. He would have enjoyed a HALO jump but now that he is out of the Army he said that he'd never jump again. LOL - My second son that is currently in Afghanistan jumps for fun. Go figure! He only has a week in St Thomas and has already sent me a list of things he wants to do. One of which is to do some Scuba diving (he's never done it) another is to buy himself a good Digital SLR (on the first day) and finally meet a young lady to go out and enjoy the local watering holes. He is really looking forward to a little down time and figures that St Thomas will be the place to do it before Uncle Sam ships him off to some other garden spot.

vi bound,

Is your son looking to meet a young lady on island, or is he bringing a new girlfriend? I couldn't quite tell from your post. I have a daughter that turns 20 this summer and is currently single. Maybe we should set them up on a blind date.

Boolchand's in Havensight and downtown is a great place to purchase electronic equipment.

He won't be bringing anyone - he's unattached and 26. And thanks, I couldn't remember the store's name.

It seems to me that Boolchand's does not have a web site but in the past they had given me a business card with an e-mail address on it so I could place orders and get quotes. My son would like to set up his purchase prior to getting to St Thomas (he is pressed for time and wants to make the most of every minute there). So if anyone has the e-mail address and a contact name could you please forward it to me via a PM on this site.

Thanks,
Rick
