Looking to buy a set for me and one for my wife, so we have our own rather than renting. Sam's Club has a set for $40, Body Glove is the brand, I think. Mask, fins, and snorkel. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I want to buy something decent.

If not Sam's Club, any other recommendations?

Thanks, Joe

We got two of our sets from there well...BJ's Wholesale. I think they are US Divers. They serve their purpose. I haven't had any problems with them. The only thing I didn't like about them was (is) that the fins are very stiff. I don't have much meat on the tops of my feet and the hard rubber (attached to the plastic flipper portion) digs into the top of my feet. I still use the mask and snorkel but I had to go to ebay and get a pair of solid rubber fins they dint put any pressure on my feet anywhere. When we got some for our 5 year old we had her try them in the tub before we decided to take them with us. You can always bring them back.

We bought ours, US Diver Brand, from Overton's, www.overtons.com , mask combo...about $40, fins about $20, fin/mask bag about $20, snorkel vest about $40, for as much as we use ours (when we're on vacation only) it's been well worth the $$$$.

We've purchased Sam's Club brand gear for casual use by our guests and it's been fine. I wouldn't recommend it for serious diving, or if you know you're going to be spending hours snorkeling around over the next few years, I'd purchase more professional grade stuff.

For similar money, you can also rent pretty good gear on any of the islands. While you don't end up owning anything for your money, neither do you have to drag everything down and back on the plane either.

I'm also a big fan of snorkel vests as well. Even if you know how to swim, being 200 yards offshore and dealing with an accidental mouthful of salt water can make you glad you have something to help you stay afloat.

prices and selection down here in the US VI are cheaper and better than the states......you can get a great mask and snorkel for $30-$70..........buy a mask that fits your face well.......that is the most important tool for your dive..........a mask that is stored right can and will last for 10 to 15 years........always a good investment

We bought ours at Target. They were inexpensive and worked really well. I wanted to make sure I found a mask that fit before going on vacation.

We bought our friends, who are going with us, a mask and snorkel from www.snorkelcity.com.

I liked them alot and each set cost us $30.00.

We have masks, snorkel, fins and a vest that we bought from a local scuba store and they were really expensive, but they're ours. We're use to them and they fit great, but the price was really expensive (can't remember how much).

I can't use fins because i get cramps in my feet all the time, so last May husband insisted on buying one of the vests and it worked out great for both of us.

I'm a good swimmer, but without fins I wouldn't think of going out unless I had the vest on. My husband on the other hand is not a good swimmer and after an incendent in Grand Cayman, he went for the vest.
