Just a question, I hope I don't offend anyone but everyone has their vices. Is marijuana accessible in STT? We like to smoke on occasion and vacation is definitely one of those occasions. Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, it's available. If you are caught buying or using there are stiff penalties i.e. you won't be going home for awhile.

How stiff of a penalty?

But dntw8up, don't you think they should just try it. Might be a good life's learning experience. I would, however, not wear open toed sandals but rather a good pair of running shoes.

Tourists caught buying or using illicit drugs generally do jail time and jail here is not like your local stateside jail.

Coki seems to be the place most mentioned in previous posts on this topic.

Penalties are high. The risk will always be there just like any other state on the mainland.

Don't even think of bringing some back as you never know when the drug sniffing dogs will be out and about at the airport or even do a surprise check on the plane.

Buyer beware as they say.

There will be some offended on this board about it but to each his/her own. Whatever floats your boat. There are consequences and it's up to you to roll the dice. Do you feel lucky?

I am surprised about Coki Point & pot. It was my favorite beach and not once did I see anyone smoking.

I have to agree with the "To each their own" philosophy.

Have a great trip - drink a few Bushwhackers and you wont care about anything else.

OH boy, I 'm laughing now! I've gotta tell you...my friend and I were walking to the Ritz from Sapphire and we came across a Rasta that was smokin right out in the open in front of the gas station across from the ferry dock in Red Hook! He wasn't shy about what he was smoking or offering to give us his own brand of exercise! WOW! It was kinda funny and we laughed the rest of the way to the Ritz.

One way that tourists can sometimes get themselves into messy situations is going out looking for illegal substances or illegal activities. If some local guy can get a tourist to follow him down some dark street, why not just take the tourist's money without having to part with the goods?

Keep your vices legal here would be my advice.

I would agree w/ lex and trade. You could really get yourself into trouble. I would be less worried about the local police (although a trip to the down town would NOT be good) than I would be about a local drug dealer. You could really get yourself into a nasty mess.

Now this message board has really peaked my interest!! When I have been to other islands, such as Jamaica, T&C, BVI etc... it was very much out in the open. (pot) Is the stricter policy because STT is a US owned island??
HMMMMMMMMmmmmm. Also, are their undercover cops out looking to bust people??? Or are they willing to let some stuff go on the wayside??
Kristen, email me if you can!

Oh, it's definitely available. My husband must be a pusher magnet cause almost EVERY island we have ever been to he is offered "smoke, ganja, bud, bush" etc. This all while myself and my kids are present. Some of them try to be sly about it and some of them don't.

Now while I won't say that Honey is vice-free, I will say that I would rip his hair out if he went about looking for it in a foreign place. Not only is it dangerous for him but it would be puting "our" well being in jeopardy. And if he did get busted, I'd also leave his a$$ in the hooscal and take my kids home!

I will say they do smoke out in the open as I ALWAYS smell it but it's just too risky to go about looking for it in my opinion. Island/foreign jail is not a fun place to be. No judgement, just might not be the best course of action and really just being in the Virgin Islands is the only high you'll need!

Don't worry, it's easily accessible and it's not strict at all. Just don't do it in the open.

The times I was approached at Coki (my wife and kids were with me) the guy would ask if I was ok (you ok mon?) while pointintapping at/on his left breast pocket. I'd just reply "I'm good, thanks!" and he would walk away after saying "alright!".

Hey, it's all OK...as long as you don't inhale.

Right?

There was an arrest yesterday for possession of marijuana. If you've ever been in front of Judge Swan you'd never even raise the question.

I have to go with Trade on this one. The USVI is paradise but you dont want to end up staying in this place....
