Any stay at Hillcrest? It sounds like a good deal for 2 people staying in town. Worry that it is a little worn?? ( from pics)

Stayed there this past Nov. Cute place, by no means luxourious.... window ac units (translation = a little warm), small bathrooms, but has everything you need. The owner is a nice lady. We stayed in one of the "suites" on the upper level. Had a kitchenette, TV, closet, canopy bed, dresser, etc.. perfect size for 2 people, and she stocks the fridge (kind of a random assortment though). GREAT location, minutes to Woodys, etc... you will get sick of the hill though, it's huge. Many a night we either got a ride with someone going up or got a cab even though it is a short distance.. and we are young and in good shape! I guess you could consider it a little "worn", but it's like the rest of St. John... it has character.

Thanks Katie, the price and location seemed great but couldn't find any recent reviews. May be an option. Did you walk to any beaches from there? I haven't gone to any near Cruz Bay. Always had a car & went farther away. We were hoping to rent a car only half the time maybe if we stay in town. The hill would be interesting..we are NOT young, but in shape..could be the daily workout.

There is a small beach close by. It's called Frank bay... pretty little bay area, mostly stones/rocks with some sand and there's a road that runs in front. Probably pretty good snorkeling but we didn't try. We walked down for a few hours one mornig. It's on the other side of Gallows Point, you can actually see one of the units from the beach. One drawback... there's some fairly large pipes running out there... wasn't sure what they were, but that was part of the reason we didn't venture into the water. Was an interesting place... quiet. It's about 5 min downhill from Hillcrest... but then 5 min uphill back. We are going back in July this year to get married, but staying at Gallows. Another option for you might be the cottage at Battery Hill. It's right across from Gallows, and very economical. Two friends of mine are staying there for my wedding and they are paying $150 a night! It's teeny, but cute and has everything you need. I believe it was the pool house and they converted it into an apartment. I think Richard from Sutie St John owns it.

Pia & Katie,
I looked at both those places & they are higher on my list than Hillcrest. Would love to hear about the cottage from your friends in July. Could you e-mail me what they think? It sounds like a cute little place. I do like a pool to jump in after the beach salt & sand.
Pia, suite dreams looks real nice & I think I read a good review here somewhere. Do you know anything about the area it is in?

I believe it is very close to The Lumberyard - right in "town" (by Dolphin Market if that helps) I have not seen it but it looks nice on-line. I have seen the cottage (we were thinking of buying it as an investment) I hope it has had some work done to it since we viewed it - it has loads of potential.

we've been very happy with the Cruz Views Condos. as mentioned they are rented from caribbean villas. 10 units all privately owned. nice pool area/views/sunsets...very comfortable. also a walk to town but i must say the walk home is a killer !! up the HILL !! usually at night we grab a cab home, the price is cheap.... vs a heart attack ! the "cottage" at Battery Hill is the closest to town. this is managed by www.suitestjohn.com -- basically a studio but enough for two.

Rody,
What units have you stayed in at Cruz Views? I hear the walk home from most of these places in town are a little rough but since I drink very little I think I can handle it. Hubby may have trouble after a few cruzans. I was hoping to look at is as an aerobic activity 🙂

we've stayed in #1, # 4 # 10..fav is 10 but have been happy w/all...yes for all places mentioned the walk home is uphill but very doable... Pia suggested Sunset View in Cruz Bay. i had a chance to "tour" it....it's a lovely, adorable, well furnished condo/apt..top floor so w/view. if you don't need a pool and don't mind the sounds of town it's really a perfect spot for 2 !!

Thanks Rody,
Trying to schedule Dec trip, but don't know if it is just the 2 of us. (then we want simple in town) or spring for the adult girls & bbf's. ( a villa is a must). Someone needs to make a decision soon.:)
