We are going to be spending 5 nights in us virgin islands and then go to the british virgin islands. We don't know anything about the BVI, but we were thinking about going to tortola and virgin gorda islands. Has anyone been there and/or can recommend better spots in the BVI?

"Better" in what way? What do you want to do with your time?

As an aside, a great way to see the BVI is on a crewed charter.

Like is one better than the other in a sense of activities to do there or are there other islands that would be worth seeing? We would like to relax and enjoy the islands but also do activities while we are there.

"Better" is subjective, depending on what you like to do. All have fun things to do.

Dear Maha,

If you want to explore EE's idea of a charter yacht for your honeymoon, let me know. I am a manager of a great Lagoon 440 (crewed) and also a broker for many other yachts. PM me if you want to start looking into prices, etc. or email me at [email protected]. No obligation to look 🙂

I can highly recommend Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda for a Honeymoon.
It was quiet, luxurious without being snobbish, and just the perfect place to relax and enjoy each other's company.
It is not wild and crazy and it is on the high side of many budgets, but it was one of the best trips we have ever taken and can nto wait to return.

you should try to add a trip to jost van dyke if you are on the british side...soggy dollar, ivan's stress free bar and foxy's are excellent little hang out spots and very relaxing....

Our family of 6 just made the following trip in July: 3 days on STT, 5 on STJ, 1 in VG, 1 on Anegada, 5 on Tortola with a 1 day charter to JVD, Sandy Cay, Sandy Spit, The Indians, The Caves and Norman Island. We were really on a schedule and thank God, the weather really, REALLY cooperated.

If you are planning a similar trip (for your honeymoon) and you have never been to either the US or the British VI (like us), then I strongly recommend that you spend more time in the USVI, especially STJ. The beaches there are the nicest, though some are crowded.
You can stay on STJ and take day charter(s) to the BVI. Don't book charters months ahead but wait until you are there and once you kind of have a feel of what the weather is going to be like, then sign up. There are many to choose from and it's low season, there will always be space.

The ferry from Cruz Bay to Virgin Gorda takes 11/2 hr, it is a small boat and can get rough. On VG, we spend a whole day at the Baths, Devil's Bay and Spring Bay. We stayed at Fischer's Cove Hotel near by, also on the beach.

The ferry from VG to Tortola is a big power cat, no problem here and it takes about 45 min to Road Town or 10 more min to West End.
We would prefer to stay on the West End (Long Bay) because it's easier to get around. Remember some roads in the BVI especially in Tortola are very tough to drive on. Read my post under "Transportation".
3 beaches : Smugglers' Cove, Cane Garden Bay and Brewers' Bay are the nicest and can hold their own against the big boys of the USVI.
I would say Smugglers'Cove is the better of the 3. It's easier to get there from Long Bay than from Soper's Hole (West End).

Jost Van Dyke would make a nice day trip. You can take a 20 min ferry from the West End. From the dock, you can walk or take a taxi to White Bay which is very beautiful but a bit crowded with lots of sail boats anchored in the bay and everybody swim to the "Soggy Dollar Bar".

If you are snorkeling, try to make it to the Indians and spend a lot of time there (we wish we did), you will not regret it.

One last recommendation: Buy trip insurance.

Have a nice trip, and CONGRATULATIONS!
