We have a jeep and my husband would have a blast (me...I would have my head down and eyes closed and probably would not be speaking to him at the end). Should I insist we turn around or should I let my husband have his fun going down the other side?

Most folks find that sticking to the main roads is enough of a thrill for them. Here's a link to a video that gives you some idea what driving can be like on STJ:

Are you an unknown sister of my wife? This sounds very familar. My vote, if your husband is comfortable with a Jeep and relatively rough roads, and you can refrain from loud screams and threats of retribution, go for it. However, my understanding is that that road (actually more of a donkey path) is pretty rough and can be impasable at times. My wife nixxed the idea for us.
Another less traveled path that you might consider is to go to the end of the pavement on Salt Pond road. This road becomes Lameshur road goes (eventually) to Little Lameshur Bay. Has some rough dirt road but a stretch of concrete road, and then a fairly reasonable dirt track. Little Lameshur Bay has a nice sand beach and will give you a chance to relax. Worth the drive, I think, and only moderatly white-knuckled.

Have fun!

Bordeaux Mountain Road - Federal Route #108 is about 95% drivable. There is a 600 foot section I don't feel comfortable driving but the rest is fine if you go slow and have four wheel drive. They keep promising to pave more. Soon come.
