you ought to start watching the NOAA website. We have a tropical depression heading our way. It may go north of us or even blow itself out, but right now it looks like the weekenc/start of next week won't be an ideal time to visit the Virgin Islands.

Today I'm going to the grocery for canned goods and batteries before heading to the beach.

Yeah, when we went into Cost U Less yesterday, I needed to buy batteries for my walkie talkie's that I use for doing airport pick ups for villas, someone said "there isn't any"! I decided I better look anyway. Only a few cheep brand AA's, did just that! GOT 2 large packages!!!!! Would be crazy to do otherwise! And Thank God I looked!

Same thing happened to Hubby's family when they were hit by hurricane Charley. We drove plywood, generators, tar paper, flash lights and batteries from IL to FL. Gas was a huge issue! I drove about 1 hour to get fuel. Sat in line for nearly an hour as well. The lines were amazing. Can't imagine being on an island! Yikes! We will keep blowing our wind south. Hope that helps!

Gobucs,
Thanx for the offer, I believe we will be just fine!

Actually, what I saw last year with people trying to get out of Texas for a hurricane was scarier than Hell! All that traffic just stuck on the highways, going NO WHERE!

Help me make my decision, we are scheduled to go to ST this weekend for 5 days. The only insight we can get here is that Dean is heading towards Jamaica. Should we execute our insurance and schedule another trip? OR should we come on for vacation? Since there are some locals posting here I am sure you have a better understanding of what we are looking forward too. We were in the middle of a Tropical storm a few years back and all it did was rain by wow it was extremely hard to justify staying.

Any input is appreciated.

Live Hurricane news-stream starting at 8PM (EST)

From http://www.stormcarib.com/ ---
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is about 212.1 miles from STT. The estimated time of when the center of the storm will be at that location is in about 30.7 hours (Friday, August 17 at 11:42PM EDT).

Expect rain.

The worst should be over by Saturday. But we'll still have rain and high seas. And you never know how the airlines are going to react.

You'll have to decide how much perfect weather means to you.

Thanks for the link, someone on chat said the storm is going to hit 300 miles away and everything should be ok. But on weather channel they say that the bands are as wide as Texas. So much larger than 300 miles.

Robert: I'm more concerned, as a local, about just the weekend deal on the weather because I've a community thing planned for Saturday/Sunday.

However, IF Dean continues on its current trajectory it should pass way south of STX with STX receiving the brunt of the backlash and STT getting some heavy rain for a couple of hours Friday evening/night. Tropical storms and hurricanes usually pass by quickly and everything clears up quickly.

However, it seems that right behind Dean is an unrelated tropical depression which MIGHT dump more rain on STT on Sunday. Again, this will probably pass by quickly and the week ahead will probably be fine as usual.

The next concern is another disturbance behind these two which MIGHT mess up NEXT weekend.

See how convoluted it all is? The computer models are just that - computer models designed to predict possibilities.

My suggestion is to continue on with your scheduled plans. The current outlook would suggest that although we may have a rainy weekend, the rest of the week will be just fine. Cheers!

Glad you guys are going to be safe. STT, I do hope Genips for Crits will be your most successful yet!

Now, I hate to be selfish...

but, are any of those "systems" headed for Florida? We're flying down next week.

Blu, do you really think that at this point I give a rat's patootie about what might possibly hit Texas, Florida or anywhere else? Y'all there can LEAVE and go upstate on that highway when de shit staht to hit de fan. We got NOWHERE to go from here, so we hunker down and just DEAL WITH! Cheers!

Teee heee......

PWI.

Here's your citation. LOL

You said y'all weren't getting anything more than rain because it was passing to the West of you and I was just wondering if it was coming to where I was going...cus I might want to change plans or wonder if my flight will be cancelled - that's all. And, here's a newsflash Tart - people on the mainland die from storms, just like elsewhere. Ever hear of Katrina? So ,we care about each other here, as much as we do about you guys down there.

Are you up eating rum soaked genips? Where do you store the "genips for crits" genips?

My honey is SO possessed with the Hurricanes that he watches them until there an after thought!!! (provided we didn't get hit and we can still watch the weather channel)!
Yes, I have to say, WE DO CARE for those other than ourselves and made a donation to the Katrina victims. It's the right thing to do, especially since WE were spared! Giving to those in need is a wonderful thing! 🙂

Hey Bluewater,
When and where in Florida?
We are flying out on Thursday so im watching every minute cuz my flight could get cancelled
I think you will be ok at this point as every local station is saying that Dean wont even come near FLA

Depending on where you are at in FLA and florida gets something down the road it might not effect where you will be
We live an hour south of tampa and even if something hits thier we usually dont feel any effects maybe some rain but wind would not be a factor
Let me know where your going
