Help!!!!!! We are arriving in St. Thomas on Christmas Day at 4:40pm - however, we need to get to Jost Van Dyke that night. Is there anyway that this can happen? Is there any ferries to get us there or will we need to take a water taxi?

If I'm not mistaken you'll have to arrange a private water taxi! I don't believe you can get to Jost at that time of day via the public ferry.

I think, and I'm not possitive that customs closes at 4:30pm. I know that is true on Friday-Sunday but I'm not sure on a Tuesday what the status would be. I believe you'd have to clear customs in Tortola and then go over to Jost. Check into Dolphin Water Taxi....they are the ones we use for transportation on the off times. I can't remember the guys name off the top of my head but if you call them and talk to them that are very good about info and "how to's". I'm pretty sure in your case you'd need a private water taxi and a trip to Tortola to clear customs prior to arriving at Jost. Let me know if you need other assistance. We are frequent travelers to Jost and know a lot about the island. Hope things work out great and you have a wonderful trip, we'll be there in 47 days!!!!!!!! Jill

Check too with Per Dohm's water taxi service, 340-775-6051. Per recently passed away but, to the best of my knowledge, his water taxi operation is still running. Cheers!

Jill - thanks for the info. I do have some other questions for you. We usually always go to Jost just as a day trip but this time we are staying there for 9 days. We wanted to get some staples: water, snacks, etc. Where would you suggest to get them and how? Also, any suggestions for dining out? I keep reading about Ivans on Thursdays, Foxy's on Friday and Saturday nights. Any other specials that I should know about. We are staying at the Perfect Pineapple and dont plan to cook at all so all meals will be out and about. We are also planning to go to Tortola for a day - any suggestions of what to see and do there? Thanks for your help.

Try dinner at Corsair's, always a great meal. Have heard good things about Sandcastle's meals too. White Bay superette has H20 and snacks, convenient but more $. Have a hot dog at Jewel's, there's a relatively new kitchen at Seddy's One Love for lunch on White Bay.
