I am looking for advice on flying into USVI. There is a major price difference from Atlanta to San Juan than from Atlanta to St. Thomas. What are the recommendations on getting from San Juan to St. Thomas if we decide to go that route.

Thanks

Personally, I prefer direct and I am willing to pay a little more for it. Going thru PR will delay arrival and the smaller flights aren't as consistent at getting in on time. Just my opinion!

I agree with Sherri about preferring a direct flight. Less travel time, less opportunity for lost luggage or missed connections. I have also found that the airfares from SJU to STT usually make the entire trip cost about the same as the direct flight, or close enough to be not worth the hassle.

It's not uncommon for the flights from STJ to STT to be overbooked, so that can be a hassle too. You don't want to find yourself on a waiting list when you're on your way to paradise! I try to avoid STJ if at all possible. To me it's worth the extra $$ to go right to STT whenever possible.

Check Delta for a non stop flight to stt. Cape Air goes from SJU to STT. They run a pretty good schedule. But they only carry 9 passengers. So when a big plane has a delay the accomodations back up pretty quick. But there is an advantage to flying the small airline. You luggage, if they can fit it all in, comes out right away. So you don't need to wait the 30-60 minutes for the big planes.

I try to fly non stop as there is a fee charges every time you land and take off from any airport. So check the price both ways. You may find that the non-stop is not that much more.

Good Luck!

If your preference is to get from here to there, you can't travel with one suitcase or you have an aversion to small planes then pay the fair for ATL to STT. However, if you have the extra time and want something more from the trip, don't sell SJU to STT short.

I prefer the smaller Cape Air planes to those of American and others as you see everything regardless of where you sit unlike larger planes where you have a little hole to look out if you are by a window. The experience of flying around puffy white clouds in the blue caribbean skies and seeing the gorgeous waters is wonderful.

Another option is to fly the seaplane from Old San Juan although it involves a little more transit. How many times in your life are you going to take off and land on the water?

i always prefer atl-stt when i can get it... actually, the more legs you add to your journey, the more you increase the chances of missing a connection. just the law of averages, i guess.

My family and I will also be in STT in June. We are flying US air out of Atlanta. They are running some very good deals if your dates are flexible. I got RT tix for 350pp total. What are your dates?

American has frequent flights out of SJU, but they are often cancelled or are late. If you can go direct do so.

Delta from Atlanta costs more, but it is really convenient. Especially on a return, having to go through San Juan can create issues. Sometimes, island time, even applies to airline schedules. If you are not used to living on island time it will bother you, but just try to lay back and relax.

We will be on island the same time as you.
