Hi,

I was reading some posts and I wanted to know if there are two K-Marts on St. Thomas. I only know of one on the Red Hook side of the island. Is there another? Also, where is Plaza Xtra and do you need a membership to buy at that store? Thanks.

There are 2 kmarts here -- a smaller one on the Sugar Estate road up from Mandela Circle . The larger one is the anchor of Tutu Mall [ center of the island ] -- and also Plaza Extra is located there. It is not a membership store.

Plaza Xtra is located at Tutu Park Mall which is where the larger, more eastern Kmart is located! It is located of rt 38 and it is a regular grocery store! No membership! Also off rt 38 is Cost U Less and tho there are memberships, you do not have to be a member to shop and no fee is added to your cost of purchases. Price Smart also off rt 38 has memberships and if you are not a member they add 10% to your food cost.
Little K is located at the bottom of the hill on rt 313

Thanks for your help. I would like to find out exactly where the Sugar Estate Road Kmart is. Is it near the Airport and do they sell food and alcohol there? Thanks.

Mandela circle is where the waterfront road comes to a T just past the new Yacht Haven Grand -- go Right to Havensite and the cruise ship dock -- or Left onto Sugar Estate rd. -- Kmart is on the left -- before the hospital and the bottom of Raphune Hill. Sherri has it on Route 313 -- I have never learned the road by number.

exit zero,
lol! It is my job to know the route numbers as I take guests to their villas! Didn't know them prior to that job! Visitors, don't ask locals were a route number is, ask for the specific place you are going! Most of us don't know route numbers as they came later on! Locals, I keep a STT map with me at all times so I can help visitors, even those lost on the road! 🙂

I think the Route #'s came about as a condition of a NTSB grant some years ago - some federal official must have been aghast that we didn't have numbered roads. Many of the original signs have gone by the wayside, maybe they only sent one set? The small green 1/10 mile markers are even less obvious now.
My favorite VI directions often include phrases like: at the bottom of the hill turn *** --- go past where the dumpster used to be -- by the big mango tree -- where the donkey lives on the road -- remember where the mailbox tree was -- if you can see the water on your left -- and of course -- you can't miss it.
The old Maine Yankee expression could apply -- " you can't get there from Here"

exit zero,
OH yes! Down the road!
I carry walkie talkies with me just so I can give land marks to my guests as many signs are not there!
Thanks for the laugh! 🙂
