*We will be visiting the island the first week of April 2006 (on a Monday). We would like to spend the day at beach. Four adults. Magens Bay Beach is our choice (so far!). Tell me anything about the beach, services, alcoholic beverages, types of food served or if we should go somewhere else.
Thanks so much!!

Cheryl,

Take a look a little further down the page at the post named:
closest/easiest beach to cruise ships?
Lots of good input

We visited this beach. The water is calm, the staff is "ok" but not great. We didn't have any food or drinks so I can't say, we stayed an hour or so and moved on.

It's a nice beach but I liked Trunk or Cinnimon much better.

When the ships are in, this beach can be VERY crowded. I was very much looking forward to Magens on my first trip, and after having been there, I was a little dissapointed. On a sunny day with no crowds however, it is still the world class beach that you read about.

You may want to reconsider & go to Coki Beach if you're interested in snorkeling. Alot of cruise ship people go there too but you can go over to the left side of the beach and it shouldn't be too bad. Coral World is to the right of the beach & they feed the fish so there's tons of fish there. The left side of the beach is also good for snorkeling. View is good too. They have local food and alcohol there & have heard that it is good but have not honestly ate or drank there since we really just came to snorkel.

Magen's has a good bar & fast foodish style restaurant there-the bar makes great painkillers--whew!! It costs $4 per person to get in. Not good to snorkel there but if you're there just for the beach it would be OK-the beach is a mile long.

Secret Harbour is a great place to snorkel & isn't very crowded as the tours don't usually take the cruise ship people there--I'd probably pick this over Megan's & Coki. There's a restaurant called the Blue Moon Cafe that would be pricier than Magen's & Coki but they do serve good food. We have seend turtles on the right side of the beach and lots of good snorkeling off to the left.

Cheryl,

We spend at least one day at Magens every time we are on the island. It can be very crowded if there are a number of ships in that day. On the other hand we have been there plenty of times when there were only a dozen others on the entire beach.

you can rent chairs for the beach. There is a bar/restaurant that has some of the best "greasy" pizza available anywhere. One of the great secrets of STT is breakfast at Magens. Most folks would never consider going there for breakfast but it's a great place to eat while looking out over the beach in the early morning. During the day you can also get drink service right on the beach from servers working out of the bar.

Great long beach, good for walks, swimming, not the greatest snorkeling. Also a great place to take in some local flavor, especially if there is a church or school group there for an outing.

There are also rest rooms and a gift shop available.

Schultz
