This topic has been toched on a little bit or maybe a lot. What we need to know is how long is the longest anyone has taken frozen meats to St. John and they have remained frozen. Has anyone had them inspected and opened, do they rifle through it all? Should we duct tape it shut? We will be traveling for 24 hours by the time we reach our final destination. Any help thanks.

We've taken chicken, steak, duck, crabmeat, shrimp, and various assorted vegetables to STT with no problems.....we typically freeze them for at least a week before we go and then stick them in those foil hot/cold bags that are typically available at grocery stores and Wal-Mart. Then just stick them in the suitcase and they are typically just barely frozen (but still cool to the touch) 3-4 days later, without refrigeration.

Thanks all, iIam having trouble convincing my husband that this is doable. My only fear was having security open up the cooler take everything out after packing it all ever so carefully and putting everything back again. Sounds like it's a plan.
Again thanks,
Mricco

A rib roast at Plaza Extra was about 2 1/2 times what it was here in VA in December 2005. Steak in July and October of 2006 was about double at Plaza Extra. If you have a villa (or in our case, relatives!) it's is definitely worth hauling an extra suitcase of 50lbs of frozen meats with you.

I wouldn't worry too much about security opening it up. They x-ray most checked bags these days and they can see the meat on the screen, so usually they'll just leave it alone (of course this is based on our experiences leaving from DCA and IAD).

Plus, you'll have a nice extra bag for liquor on the way back!

FYI, three weeks ago, Plaza Extra had the best price on 1L 12 Y.O. Glenlivet and 1L Jack Daniels.....K-Mart had the best price on non-flavored Cruzan and 1L 12 Y.O. Glenfiddich.
