I learned today that the young man charged with the murder on St. John is not even a local!

He has only lived on St. John for less than one year and is originally from
Atlanta, Georgia.

Thought this information is important for all of the travel agents and tourists
to know.

Somehow it doesn't make me feel better that I may get killed by someone in St. John who is not a native of the island. I'll still be dead and the cops will still be botching the investigation.

I don't think the OP was trying to make you feel better. It's just they media has been trying to make it look like it was a natice St. Johnian that did the killing. People were condeming the locals, and now we find out that he was not a local.

And by the way, you can get killed right in your own state. Crime happends everywhere. It doesn't matter if you are on St. John or in your home state, or whereever you are from.

Are you all Americans??? He has not been tried and convicted yet. Innocent until proven guilty, hello, ring any bells??? In Aruba, they arrested 12 different people and never convicted any of them. An arrest made does not mean anything.

Teresa,

You knew better. Is the ATL heat getting to you? You raised his to the top of the forum? After Pia, Ron and EL did all that hard work to push it to page 2?

Naw, I think ole kc is the one bumping the thread - either that, or I missed a joke....

May I ask a totally innocent question? What possible difference does it make whether the killer was from St. John or Niagra Falls? Is there that much push in the VI to distance themselves from this? So what if he was staying there, visiting there, or bahn there.....Teresa is correct in that he is innocent until proven guilty (kinda like OJ) - but why the intense push to say whether it was or wasn't a local? I don't think the Arubans (? Arubians? whatever) were condemned as a whole over Natalee Holloway....yes, it hurt their tourist trade for a little while, but where he's from really doesn't matter as much as justice being served no matter WHO s/he is. I'm not exactly sure I understand the defensiveness of some of the posts - what, the USVI doesn't have any bad apples? This isn't a condemnation of a locale, only a condemnation of a criminal. It happened on STJ soil but no one could believe it could be a local? Ted Bundy's friends were surprised, too....now it turns out the SUSPECT (and he is only a suspect, even though charged with the crime) is from Atlanta.

Anytime there is a violent crime in a relatively small tourist area, it hurts.....it stings....doesn't matter how it happened....but we're getting confused somewhere. First the police were covering up for an islander and hesitant to make a case because it was a local - now it's not a local, and everyone wants to push that fact out front....so what would the police have had to cover up if they were anxious to make the arrest of a non-local? (other than their response time and messing up the crime scene, if indeed that is all true).

WHO was condemning the locals? No one condemned the whole of STX about 18 months ago when the Hovensa worker was beaten to death outside that bar downtown...there was a great deal of condemnation for whoever did it. And I think there are a lot of people who don't want this to turn into a sensationalism story like the Holloway case...understandable, but shouldn't our first concern be that justice be served?

People are still planning trips there in spite of a tropical depression - I agree that the crime in the VI needs to be addressed, but all this disturbance over where this/these young men came from - that's kind of beyond me....

I must have missed something - I usually do.

You might not understand the issue...but I don't understand your question. Guess we're even 🙂

The person who raised this thread was a troll (prior to you).

I,frankly, don't care where they're from (whomever the killers are). I just want the true killer caught and convicted. I thin k many others feels the same.

We want to feel safe when we visit - and we want out friends on the islands to feel safe everyday. We want to trust the police and the governement. That is important to us - just in case. My view is that this whole case is less about the people of STJ and their integrity (I believe the residents, native and non, are upstanding people that I would call friends and fellow citizens) and more about the government 's lack of focus on material issues. But, there's a bad element and a police force and a governemnt with more challenges than most, resulting in unfavorable crime solvency and conviction rates - half of the US average...with islands, not continents, for hiding.

That's all.

Hey if the troll was prior to you and 'you' is BeckyR than is the troll me??? 😛 Sorry Blu, you got so much flak for bringing up the stuff and then I go and do it after all the hoopla. I promise I won't post on this again, after of course I post this... I can't win. Again sorry to bump it, I just couldn't stand the fact that someone was convicted before trial even though that wasn't what they were chirping about anyway. Oh Lord help us.
