My 12 yr. old daughter is coming to visit in June & July. My small studio apt just isn't gonna be comfortable for the three of us but I don't want to give it up because she is only gonna be here for 2 months. I have checked a few websites for timeshares on st. Thomas but I cant afford $1000 week for 2 months on top of the rent I already pay. I need some inside info. I really don't want to have to put my daughter on an air mattress in the corner of this tiny apt.

I would check the Island Trader which comes out every Thursday (and is also viewable online via a link through the Virgin Islands Daily News website) as I've often seen ads in there for short-term rentals. Check Virgin islands Craigslist too. Hope you find something suitable.

Two of our children were about that age when we spent 3 months on island renovating our place. It was very close quarters and definately a little cramped but we still have fond memories of our "glorified camping" In the Caribbean. At the age of 12 you have limited time to be able to do this, any older than 14 it would probably lose some of the charm, this coming from a mother with 2 daughters.

If I could make a suggestion I wouldn't rent another place full time for the 2 months that she will be spending on island with you, but instead try to work in a weekend getaway every other weekend or as the budget allows. We were able to find outstanding last minute deals with our local discount. It is the offseason so you can easily find them. One weekend we called the Westin on Friday morning and asked if they had any deals for locals to get away for the weekend. We were put in a great 2 story condo up on the hill for $130 a night for 2 nights. Funny, even though we had time to stretch out and have our own space we all stayed together in one room anyway, lol! Think of it as little mini-vacations for yourself as well.

I'm not sure if this was helpful but we sure had a great time and thought that I'd pass that on.

I had thought about just doing the weekend thing also. I just want to make her first visit a memorable one. I know that the 2 months will fly by and I want her going back home and telling her friends how much fun she had and not how she got stuck sharing a room with her mom and stepdad. Was just hoping with the high season coming to an end that there would be some really good deals coming up. I like what you said about the "glorified camping". My husband actually brought home a tent a couple of weeks ago with the idea that she would at least have a little privacy and it might make it fun. But, he couldn't find the poles 🙁
