I may need to re think our charter to the BVI. Anyone use Pocket yachts out of Sapphire? Any suggestions for a boat company that lets you choose your destinations. Been to the Baths too many times and want to go other places this time. Looking on the inexpensive side for 4 people. TIA!

Try Naughty Nymph at the AYHC, Red Hook.

"Inexpensive" is a subjective term......expect to pay around $500. for the boat...$125. for the captain, fuel (probably around $150.) plus the tip for the captain (15-20%). This does not include lunch, drinks or customs fees for the BVI's.

Note: you'll also need proof of citizenship if you go to the BVI's.

Also on my list are Awesome powerboat rentals and Waters edge sports. Anyone have experience with either of these companies?

Thanks about the price.

I'm looking more for info on how good the captains were, how well the boats were maintained type of thing, good/bad experience etc.

Nauti Nymph - Sea and Ski - Awesome - Waters Edge -- are all located within walking distance from each other in Red Hook -- if you go there early in the morning or late afternoon while most of the boats are in their slips you can easily assess and decide what kind of vessels and the condition they are in fits your needs best. Talk with the operators there about the pricing and availability and what accessories are included in the price and what is available for any additional fees. You are likely to meet the owners of these operations and some of the Captains they employ as well. I do not think renting any of them in advance of your arrival is necessary 95% of the year.
Pocket Yachts is located in Sapphire Marina - not Red Hook proper but on the East End close by.

You must now have a passport or a passport card to visit the BVI.

My only experience with pocket yachts was standing on the dock calling them to ask about a boat for rent and being told they were all rented for the day nothing was available. No one was actually at the dock but all the boats were.
I have rented from Nauti Nymph, Ocean Runners (STJ) and Awesome. They all have good boats. If you are looking for a captain then I would call Lion In Da Sun or Palm Tree Charters. Both of them are top notch operations, owner operated and very personal service. Google either one and they will come up. They are both St John based but will pick up in St Thomas.
