My wife and I are going to be staying at the Antilles Point Pleasant Resort when we come down. Would it be better to rely on taxi's or should we rent our own car? We know we want to go to shopping in Charlotte Amalie one day and also go to Magen's Bay one day as well. I know we have about 3 different beaches within walking distance of our resort, which is where we will be most of the time. We do want to try different restaurants for diner and maybe see Drake's Seat as well. I didn't know if using taxi's would be reliable for these things or if it would cost an arm and a leg? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you go to "St Thomas" at the top of this page and scroll down to "transportation" you'll find the taxi rates. Taxis charge per person and that can get mighty expensive very fast which is why the general recommendation is to rent a car so you can go less expensively where you want when you want.

Hopefully you also have a day trip to St John planned in which case, as long as you don't rent from Hertz which doesn't allow their cars on the car barge to St John, you can spend a great day their exploring to your heart's content under your own steam. Enjoy!

Definitely rent a car! If the two of you go by taxi from Point Pleasant to town for shopping, it will cost $10 per person each way, or a total of $40 added to to your purchases!:-o

I own a condo at Point Pleasant...take it from me....rent a car!!!!!

If you're a AAA member Hertz gives a discount. Memberships in other organizations might provide discounts with Budget & Avis.
