Well since I think you are planning on staying at the Wyndham I would recommend the following cheap eat places because they are near you or really worth the trip.

1. Jacks Wings www.jackswings.com which is just up the road from the Wyndham.
2. Fungis which is right next door to the Wyndham. http://www.agaveterrace.com/fg1.html
3. If you are in town worth stopping at Fat Turtle or Wikked in the new Yacht Haven Marina, cheap eats but good overlooking the water.
4. Toad and Tart which is down about 1/2 mile from the Wyndham on your left. Take a right out of the Wyndham lot, it only open on the Fri-Sun. Good food.
5. In Red Hook I would recommend Molly Malones (bottomless Mimosas for $14 on Sundays, and Sats too if I'm not mistaken) and of course the ever present Duffys.

Drinks are about $3 a piece unless you go to Duffy's, and beers range from $1 for Coors lite to $3 for Coronas.

All of the restaurants I mentioned you can get meals under $20. If you are on a tight budget I would recommend some other places to stay over the Wyndham. Like a condo for $110 a night where you get a kitchen so you don't have to eat out every meal.

I didn't find the drink prices anymore then what we would pay for them here in PA. Pretty reasonable overall. Even if you decide to buy a case of beer, the cost is not jaw dropping.

I remember staying in Grand Cayman and a case of Coors was 60.00 a case. Couldn't beliieve it!

I'm so old I can remember when it was cheaper to fill your swimming pool on St. Thomas with rum rather than water! But then cigarettes were also 10 cents a pack!

Try the Greenhouse from 4-7 for happy hour - 2 for 1 drinks on everything!

Just saw StuScott's post and, since he mentioned The Toad and Tart English Pub, it's open THU-Sun not FRI-Sun. You can check out the website at www.toadandtart.com for more info. Cheers!

Stu, with all due respect I'd question the drink prices you quoted, as in "Drinks are about $3 a piece unless you go to Duffy's, and beers range from $1 for Coors lite to $3 for Coronas."

Once in a while a bar will offer, via their island liquor distributor, a Coors Light for $1 but that's not the norm and a Coors Light (or any US domestic beer) will cost you average $3, Corona and other imports about $3.75. A "well" drink will run you average $4-6 depending on where you are. A frou-frou blender drink or a specil martini can run anywhere from $6-10 dependent on the ingredients but I don't serve the frou-frous so don't have to mess with all of that.

Getting back to original poster Terri, I'm confused about what you're really looking for. I think you also posted elsewhere about the price differential in going AI or not at Wyndham Sugar Bay and wondering how much it would cost? I did answer you by saying that AI is generally not the way to go here and that Sugar Bay is in the process of phasing out their AI by 2008. You then said that a family member was encouraging you to go AI but that you planned on being free and exploring?

If you're coming here on a really tight budget apart from your hotel, then just be upfront and say so and regular posters will give you an abundance of tips about keeping down your expenditures. In fact poster StuScott suggested you look into a villa/condo rental and that would probably work out best for you.

Whatever you decide to do, have a great vacation! Cheers!

Probably to figure out what the costs would be if they didn't go A-I.

Is there a website for a liquor store that I could look at? Please let me know. Also, how should I get fom the port where the cruise boats come in to the other side of the island for shopping? How much are taxis?

I support STT Resident's quoted prices. That seems most accurate. Being that she is a restaurant owner, on STT her advice on such things is sound. Her prices are what I find around the island when I am there twice a year.

Buffy: this thread seems to have been regurgitated but I'll endeavour to answer your question by first suggesting that you go to the top of this page where you can click on taxi fares.

There is no "other side of the island" in relationship to where the cruise ships come in related to shopping. If the cruise ship on which you are travelling is scheduled to come into the WICO facility at Havensight, the Havensight Shopping Mall is right there as you disembark and the prices in those stores are generally comparable to those which will you find downtown.

But you can go downtown to savour some of the historical charm and that will be a taxi ride, Likewise if your cruise ship docks at Crown Bay, that facility is still in the growing stages and there will be a slew of taxi drivers awaiting you to either take you to "town" or to various beach areas or a combination of both. Your cruise ship tour operators will have all sorts of information available for you at each port of call so I really wouldn't muss and fuss about it!

Nor about the cost of liquor, either because your cruise ship call will be just for one day and liquor prices are pretty standard throughout the island. I think I'm getting irritated with myself about answering at such length. Cheers!

Oh, cheers, Blu! Look forward to seeing you again one of these fine sunny days. Good grub awaits!

Thank you for the answer. I was looking for a link so I could decide which ones and how many of each I would be willing to get. I will probably end up paying extra for extra bottles. I need to have an idea so I know how much money to bring. Anyone know any link.
