Morning Kiddies...........................

Wow, what a response on the tipping thread, great stuff!

Okay, I'm starting this thread to gather public opinion ONLY.

I would like to find out how everyone, both here AND up in the states feel about the possibility of having a Country Radio Station on ST. Thomas.

It will not be "TWANG" Country as some folks refer to it, rather it will be a mix of both today's new modern sound in country/country rock as well as a sprinkling of the legends and classics. IT will be LIVE, more music and LESS talk, it will be streamable via the internet to offices and homes in the states, will focus on NOW HAPPENINGS here in the USVI. Requests will be available on phone AND email, major act concerts will be forthcoming as early as July and this station will be EVERYWHERE in the community, a street team can be in place within 14 days from air.

The playlist is going to be what you hear at your local HOT NEW COUNTRY station along with a balanced mix of classics and the Legends(CASH, JONES, WILLIAMS, CLINE, etc.). In addition, The new Eagles stuff, Marshal Tucker, John Prine, Pure Prairie League, SKYNYRD, Jimmy Buffett, all the stuff no one plays anymore. We are building this to keep the energy high, the request lines fired up and the Islands rockin..................We will be giving away regualr trips to places like Nashville for a Grand Ole Opry package, Las Vegas for the Acadamy of Country Music awards, trips to various locations for backstage concert packages, etc.

Please respond with a YES I WILL LISTEN or NO I WON'T LISTEN.

Thanks and HAPPY SUNDAY...................................

Dylan, you may be quite surprised to learn that many of your mature locals might enjoy a spot of country, but on the classic side. This goes back to when there were very few media choices and Patsy Cline, Buck Owens and George Jones ruled the airwaves.

The local record stores used to have plenty of country, and Bobby Hunt still plays a lot of Jim Reeves and such mixed in with his oldies on his afternoon show on Kiss FM (101.3). I think of Reeves as a kind of crossover to Pop though. Bobby still sells many of these along with soul hit makers like Otis Redding...

Not sure how the hot stuff would fly, but your die-hard country fans are still alive and kicking.

Jim Reeves was DEFINITELY one of the early crossover artists, as was Patsy Cline.

The programming on Kiss is all off the bird(satellite)so all the jocks you hear on here are stateside. Actually, Kiss and JAMZ 105 share the same control room, the live JAMZ jocks keep KISS updated.

I personally love the old classic artists, I grew up on these legends and my early musical training was on old Jones songs, Porter Waggoner, The Osborn Brothers and the such.

The hot new stuff will work to a certain extent and the classic sound is OVERWHELMINGLY popular. But one needs the new sound in order to be able to sell the station to those businesses frequented by your P1 and P2 Demographic.

Thanks for the input, I was afraid I'd started a "dead thread", but I'll let it run its course throughout the day and we'll see.

The TITANS WILL WIN IN SAN DIEGO TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO TITANS, and congratulations to the University of Tennessee Lady Vols for CRUSHING Notre Dame yesterday!!!!

Dylan, I love Country and I would love listening to it. That's new country, since I didn't start listening till about 5 years ago and now I'm hooked.

New Eagles sounds like the old Eagles, great CD. Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Sugarland...that kind of country.

Great idea!

It's always a good day in America when anyone beats the Domers, men or women.

Dylan,
I am not a fan of country, but I think it would do well if there isn't one today. I assume you would broadcast to all of the nearby islands.

The islanders I know seem to have very diverse musical tastes. I am always surprised at what is played in their cars and homes.

Hey Dylan, I have not listened in a while on a Sunday due to some schedule craziness of my own, but Kiss surrenders to local talent on weeknight evenings and over Saturday and Sunday afternoons with shows like "Caribbean Nights" with Eustace Grant, "The Jazz Set" with Lee V., "Reggae Runnings" with Ras Regg, and "Music Mix" with The Big O. Bobby Hunt has the Sunday slot (unless that's changed with the new management) at 1pm after "Jazz Set"...

country is pretty much all i listen to at home and my favorite stuff is the old twangy stuff from the 40's and 50's, and the hillbilly music is great as well but i think it's called bluegrass music now, in the 60's growing up my step father listened to alot of ferlin husky and i truly despised that music, as i got older i learned to appreciate it. and the bar kind of across from the lost dog used to play alot of country, the old local men like it.

I will chime in as the captialist

let the people decide - if they can sell adds somebody is listening

A new station in the DC area 94.7 the globe plays anything from 1950 till today
Frank followed by Prepetual Groove
Good Music is good music
if it is Hank, Elvis, Bob, or Bono it does not matter to me

Just shut up and play music

btw 94.7 the globe - streams music for your office listen pleasure

This is starting to look better everyday.........................I'm even getting responses from people who have read the thread but not posted and so far, the "YES'S" far outnumber the "NO'S"

A country radio station would definitely get my nod of approval. I'm so SICK of the Beatles, and "oldies". We're in the year 2007 people. It's time to move forward! Being from Texas and living on St. Croix, I listen to country music on my sirius satellite tv. The only time I listen to local radio is when I'm either in my car or there's a power failure and have to listen to my boom box. What's is gonna' take to get a new radio station in the islands?

Dylan,
I would listen to country as part of the mix. It's always nice to have when you want it. It's the only thing I listen to in my truck because I can sing along to my heart's content without anyone complaining that I'm hogging air space. I'm so into harmonizing. Should of been a back-up singer. Oh well.
I'm pretty good at writing lyrics, maybe we should team up.
