Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find out any information on using Space Bags to pack for our trip this year. I searched the topic and found a couple of people liked them and a couple didn't. What I need to know is if anyone has used them recently and how the airline people deal with them when you first check your baggage--- and how about coming home, how do the customs officers deal with them? I'd hate to go in with one suitcase packed all neatly with space bags, and find out that the airlines have had to open them and have clothes billowing out everywhere. We'll be down for a month, so I'm bringing more than usual--- also 'spacebagging' my pillow. I guess using space bags are allowed under the new rules... Any help is greatly appreciated!

We used space bags on our last trip and did not have any problems. Yes, I space bagged my pillow too! There is a limit of 50 lbs per bag though. Anything over that will cost you more.

just keep in mind that all of your bags are subject to screening... which could certainly include opening.

I used to work for a company that sold travel gear, luggage and supplies. We did not recommend the space bags for long distance travel. Unfortunately, your bags are subject at any point to screening and if they decide to open all the bags in your luggage, all the items will not fit back in your luggage.

Paula,

Notice that I will take the high road here and not make any bag lady comments or female astronaut remarks. I thought you were only going for ten days so why are you packing for thirty? 🙂

She said she was going down for a month that's why she was bringing more than usual.

Patrick,

Yes I know, but in a private post I thought she said they were going for ten days...thus the jab. Besides, I enjoy picking on her. I wonder if her husband knows they're going to be there for a month??? 🙂

I used the bags on my visit last month and they were not opened. I thought they were a hassle to close and squeeze down, however. I ripped one just trying to roll it before I left home. Maybe the vacuum ones are better. I'll probably not use them again.

Thanks everyone-- I think I'll just space bag my pillow.... if they open that and I can't get it back in, I won't worry about it. I was more concerned with losing clothes.

Sandcrab--- Put those glasses on and put that glass down when you're reading your email! 🙂
