We will be at St John in late June. I was going to prebook the New Horizon Breakaway for the day trip to Baths. Is this a good trip to book. It is expensive and I am wondering if it is best to wait till the last minute and get a price break. There may be as many as four of us.
Thanks
Larryk

Most places don't give last minute price discounts. It is expensive but they do a REALLY nice job and gas to the Baths is very expensive. I'd book it now just to be safe. There are other alternatives like Limnos but I think ther personal service of New Horizons is worth it. Limnos is around $100 a head, and I don't think New Horizons is too much more, so spend the extra money you will have alot more fun.

You might also check out www.captainnautica.com. Really enjoyable trip, capacity limited to 16 passengers and plenty of time for snorkelling.

My husband & I took the Breakaway charter when we were in STJ this past November (prebooked). We had a great time & would take it again. It stops at the Baths, Marina Cay & Jost Van Dyke...makes a nice day trip!

Our family of 4 just took the New Horizons II trip over Easter break and really enjoyed it. The boat holds 18 but we only had 11 guests. We beat the crowds to the Baths and the crew was very well organized. My children enjoyed visiting a number of spots.

What is the difference in New Horizons II and Breakaway?

We were on NHII last year (2005) - at that time we chose NHII over Breakaway because it was a faster powerboat & could take in 4 stops, as compared to the 3 that Breakaway does. NHII took in a snorkeling stop in addition to The Baths, Marina Cay for Lunch & White Bay at Jost Van Dyke.

We saw Breakaway & at the time it looked "packed to the gills" with people - there seemed to be more room on NHII.

Either way, you probably won't be disappointed - The Baths are amazing & White Bay is gorgeous. On White Bay be sure to walk down the beach & get to One Love Bar, you may be lucky enough, as we were, to catch Foxy Callwood's son, Seddy singing at Seddy's One Love Bar - he is great!

OK -- thanks. Someone said they both stopped at the same place, but I will go with the New Horizons II. Thanks so much!

CJ,

I just went out on their sites & it does appear that Breakaway now has a snorkel stop after the trip to The Baths & before lunch. The snorkel stop is at Diamond Reef. New Horizons II has their snorkel stop at Guana Island after lunch.

I know that one of the supposed advantages with taking NHII was that it got to The Baths quicker than any of the other boats - so, you got a good chance of beating the crowds there. And it was able to have quite an expansive route with being able to go a bit faster.

Great crew - well organized & really a nice boat. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Thanks. We are trying to get reservations on the New Horizon now! I do not know the difference in Guana or Diamond Reef -- so we will just be surprised!
