we will be on STJ for 10 nights for our honeymoon beginning Oct. 2. I know several places on STJ may be closed for a break.
Would a trip to STT for dinner be worth it?
We enjoy fine dining so if there's a place that really should be taken in, we are willing.

What time is last return ferry to STJ?

Thanks all,
Mary Beth

I'm a bit of a foodie, and there are plenty of very nice restaurants on STJ. I would say skip the trip, because most of excellent restaurants are in town and to cab it all the way there, plus ferry fees etc. well there is 1/2 your dinner already. $20 in ferry fee, then $40 in cabs, so enjoy St John.

I think a trip to STT for dinner is a great idea and the ferry trip back and forth adds an enjoyable dimension! Check the ferry schedule on this site.

I highly recommend Banana Tree Grille which is privately owned and located within Bluebeard's Castle. The food is consistently A-one, they have an extensive wine list and the panoramic view overlooking the harbour is beautiful. The ferry to downtown (as opposed to Red Hook) will deposit you only a short taxi drive away.

Another highly regarded restaurant on the East End (ferry to Red Hook) is Romano's. There is no view but the decor is beautiful, the ambiance very romantic and the cuisine is high Italian.

I'm sure others will have other dining suggestions but, all in all, I think a trip over for dinner one night is a great idea. You're on a honeymoon vacation so hang the extra little expense!

I'll chime in with...it depends.

If all you intend to do is go eat and then return to STJ, then I agree with StuScott. However, it makes a lot of sense to make more of a trip (1/2 day) if you do some sight seeing, window shop, etc. and then complete the trip with an evening meal as STTResident suggests. There are many excellent restaurants on STT and some of the views are as nice or superior to those available in Cruz Bay. Ten days is a long time in one place so I suggest you get out and explore.

Yes Chris is right. If you do come over I would suggest Oceana www.oceana.vi very good food and an excellent setting, listening to the waves. Another is Herve with a view of downtown but setback next to the Government House http://www.herverestaurant.com/

I think my favorite is Craig and Sally's in Frenchtown. The food is out of this world, although there is no view or anything exciting other than the food. Pricey but well worth every single penny. Everything is fresh and the menu changes daily.

But since you are a tourist and I'm sure you want a nice view I would stick with the first two. Many people will say Havana Blue at the Marriott but I have heard mixed reviews. A friend who was visiting, and a food fanatic like me, went there and said the food was good but way overrated and overpriced for the quality.

I hope this helps.
