Ok all, I know we've all added our .02 on our favorite restaurants to this thread and that thread...but I need to ask again. I'm going down next week and will NOT have the full entourage of family and friends I normally bring, so I can splurge a little more on dining experiences (and plan to!).

So, please list your top 10 favorites, tell why, and suggest something from the menu. No matter how fancy or how casual.

STT and STJ....

THANKS!!! I promise full, detailed reviews when I return.

I just love Rhumb Lines in Cruz Bay. It has to be the best kept secret on the island. Not the greatest location, but the food is terrific. Can't really say what my favorite is. I've been there 4 times, tried something different everytime and been delighted each time. For something you may not get anywhere else, try the Mango Gazpacho for an appetizer.

We arrive on 6/3 and will be going there that evening for sure, and at least one more time the following week. Can't wait!!

I'm just doing research for my first trip in April but I can't find much info on this restaurant and the condo owner recommends it to her guests. Dotties Front Porch. THis is all that I could find out about it.
Type: American / Steak House
Address:Compass Point Marina Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas, USVI

The setting of Dotties Front Porch does not stray very far from its name. Casual, relaxing, and delicious, head chef and owner Dottie has accented American favorites with a St. Thomas twist. Visitors come for a 'downhome'meal in the outdoor garden dining area.
Open: 6.30pm-10pm daily; Closed Sunday

Want to check it out for me?

My other St. Thomas restaurants on the more expensive end that I would want to visit are:
#1 Havana Blue, #2 Blue Moon Cafe, #3 Roberts, #4 Banana Tree Grill, #5 Herve. Numbers 1-3 have a beach that we can walk off our dinner at so that is why I have them ranked before 4 and 5.

For fun: Duffy's Love Shack, Iggies, and The Greenhouse (they advertise an 80's night on Saturdays and happy hour every day.) From reading your posts I think you are about my age - 80's in high school/college?

My husband gets a craving for Mexican once and a while and I read about this place. Charlotte Tamales behind "Modern Music" and "Tropic Scooter", across the Street from Havensight. Coming OUT of the main Havensight Entrance, it is to the left, a little bit tucked behind the main buildings. It was a converted garage or warehouse. A banner proclaimed its name, and there was a Harley with a sombrero on the back decorating one of the entrances.Mexican restaurant run by a guy named Biker John. Borritos as big as a liter soda bottle. Whether they taste any good or not I don't know, but the people who wrote the trip report went back for seconds.

There is one more that I don't know exactly where it would fit.

XO Bistro- Red Hook Plaza. Dinner Mon-Fr 5 p.m.-? Sat 6pm-? Soups, salads, pizza. $. Cards: MC, V, AX. 779-2069. Wine and Champagne bar Red hook behind Duffy’s love shack. This is a nice little place that not to many visitors to our island find, but is a place locals love to relax and unwind away from the rah-rah crowd. Also, if you're looking for THE place to be on Friday nights, this is IT.

For St. John I want to try a newer place that I have not read much about on this board called The Balcony. They have a web site.

http://thebalconyoncruzbay.com/ It looks very nice, with a view and it won some award for Best Seafood. They have key lime martinis which my husband and I really like. (We first had them at The Cheesecake Factory) ZoZo's has key lime martinis too. We thought we would try those martinis at both places and see if either of them can beat The Cheesecake Factory.
Another restaurant that appeals to me is called Panini Beach. The story about the owners moving from Chicago is on their web site. The wife was trained in Italian cooking in Chicago so I'm thinking it has to be good. They also have martinis and tiramisu, which is one of my favorite desserts. Here is their web page: http://www.paninibeach.com/

I look forward to your reviews.

WoogaWooga- Rhumblines is MY favorite restaurant on STJ! They "kick it up a notch" as Emeril says. My daughter likes to sit at the bar in the rope swings, so we usually do that. I never hear much about Rhumblines, so I agree that it must be a well kept secret. Either that, or it is too spicy/exotic for most.

Kraushaus - I see that your list contains some of my intended stops on this trip. We'll have to compare notes!

I can help with Dottie's. I've been there 3X.

She used to have a coupon in the Rotary book, but I've not seen it in a few years now. Her food is good.

It went like this....
Come to the door and you're greeted and seated by your hostess...Dottie.
Then your drink order is taken...by Dottie.
Then you drink is made and brought...by Dottie.
Then Dotties comes and sits at your table to chat and talk abuot what she's serving that night (usually the same thing each night - small menu, ver ugood)....and she takes your order while sitting at your table.
Then you hear dishes clanging back in the small kitchen and out comes Dottie with your food.
More drinks...Dottie.
Dessert --- mmmmmmmmmmm --- she has something chocolate called "To Die For", and it is.
There are only a few tables. I have never seen anyone else working there but Dottie. Nothing on the menu was over $12 when I was there.

Here is an old thread about her place.

EE-
Interesting list since you don't include some of the "typically' mentioned places - maybe because you only have East End places listed.

Thanks!!

If you like crab legs, then you've gotta hit Iggies on Tuesday for their crab leg dinner. There are a few other places who serve crab legs - and you can get all you can eat - but the other restaruants charge you BY THE POUND. Iggies is all you can eat for $29. It is great! Chef Ric has a great spice combination - and they are DUngeoness legs/clusters, rather than King crab legs. My suggestion is to get there early - 6ish - because it seems it is a BIG local's night during 'season'....and if you arrive much after 7 there is a good chance you MAY have to wait for a table. They do serve on the beach, picnic tables (traditional rectangular and they have recently added some nice round ones as well).

Blue Moon is always good - as for Slater or Drew for waiter...both guys are excellent. One drawback - Blue Moon only serves American wines....GOOD ones, but only American. If you favour Aussie or South American wines, ask for reccomendations 🙂

There's also Toad & Tart - in Smith Bay near ...erm...where Grand Beach Palace USED to be (formerly the Renaissance). A small place, but good food.

There are 2 new cajun restaurants - Karl's at Point Pleasant and...erm....I forget the name of the other one, but it is on a houseboat at Saga Haven Marina. Parking CAN be an issue, but when is it not :). I haven't been to either, but my boss has been to the one on the boat - said food was excellent.

German food? Schnitzel House. Traditial German food. As far as I remember, you need reservations.

All of the above are on St Thomas.

The Cajun restaurant at Saga Haven, Cajun Mary's, has already closed. The guys who ran it apparently had a disagreement with the landlord. Now they're debating on whether to stay or leave the island. It's too bad, they're nice, talented guys with an interesting story of how they arrived here.

If you want a really good, really casual meal make sure to hit Sopchoppy's and get the Alfredo pizza. If you go early enough (kitchen opens at 4. bar at 3.) you can sit and watch all the boats coming back into American Yacht Harbor. They're on the top floor and are open air.

Do restaurants like Room with a View, Banana Tree Grill and Robert's offer a children's menu or appropriately priced children's portions?

Romanos-Smith Bay-on the way to Coki Beach
Excellent Italian food-probably one of the most expensive restaurants on the island, but the food and service makes it well worth it. Reservations a must 340.775.6350

Blue Moon Cafe-at Secret Harbor Resort. (I actually had my wedding reception there) Excellent Continental cuisine and view
http://www.virginislandsparadise.com/restaurants-bars/bluemooncafe/

Why the disappointment with Agave?

My husband and I use to LOVE the Agave....

We skipped last year going all together, but the two years prior to that it was a great disappointment. Once my food was ice cold and almost tasted like it was frozen then defrosted. My husband ordered the some type of seafood melody and it had hardly and seafood! The next time we went we just didn't care for the food-not much flavor and hubbies dish was cold this time.

They still have the BEST snowballs! (icecream covered with coconut). Last year we just went to the bar for dessert.

Another restaurant we went to the hostess recongized us from the Agave. We told her our experience and she told us the had a new chief.

Kimberly: Blue Moon is "An American Cafe", so it would have continental food of the North American continent!! 😉 And as Manta says, California wines only (good ones $$$)

And Bluie: I was just limiting myself to the east end... I would bet that Robert's is the most child friendly on your list as the owners have children that have grown up in the restaurant!! Other child friendly places on my list- Arthur's, Bonnie's and Molly Molone's.

And kraushaus: Try Robert's for martinis, also Randy's, East End Cafe, Old Stone Farmhouse. You'll find most everyone has specialty martinis!
