I'm looking for a casual eating place close to the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, we are staying there next week but opted out of the all-inclusive (we don't drink and we'd like to eat local), hoping to find a place close to the hotel to grab lunch after we get checked in (on Sunday). We're also not renting a car, but are willing to take a taxi, hopefully no more than 15 minutes away. Not looking for anything fancy (already have those places scoped out for dinner) just a burger, fish or salad, quick and easy, hopefully reasonably priced ($7 to $12 per person). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Rent a car!
2. Finding lunch for $7.......????? Let me know if you do.......
3. The Point Pleasant Resort, next to the Wyndham has a small restaurant, Fungi's (on the water). You can walk to it if you go around the rocks on the left side of the Wyndham beach and use the trail that gets you to Fungi's. Be prepared to get your feet (and knees) wet, though.
4. Your other choices are in Red Hook....a $1 safari bus ride away ($5 taxi (each) return).

Thanks for the tips, based on the things we have planned renting a car just doesn't seem worth it. Plus after we pay for the few taxi rides we'll take we'll probably spent a little less than the cost of a rental, all while not having to remember to drive on the left! 🙂 Thanks again!

Picaso's Coffee Bar (or something like that) is directly across the street from Wyndham. Last time I was there they had some lunch food. I just called to confirm. They have sandwiches on either bagel or croissant and burgers. It's a very casual place with those gambling machines, but it's clean.

You can ask the cab driver to stop for take-out on your way to Wyndham. Most of the take-out places sell lunches in that price range.

Picaso's is more than half a mile up the road from the Wyndham....it's even before Point Pleasant.......and I would not advise walking on that road as there are no sidewalks.

Lakes Fried Chicken in Smith Bay -- stop and get take out on the way to the Hotel - in Your price parameter.
Marina Market Deli in Red Hook - same - stop before you get to the hotel and bring it to the room.

E.Z., I think you mean "Chester's Fried Chicken" in Smith Bay.

I think that they want a sit down restaurant, not take out.......they're on vacation.........

Chester's Chicken (where you can sit down to eat) is almost directly across from Lake's (which also has a couple of tables).

Cheese 'n' bread, Lakes has been there for donkey's years, I've been in Smith Bay for over 15 years now and they were there long before that! Right on the corner of the road going to Coki. Coming from the East you have Sparrow's Lone Market superette little store on the right and Lake's across from he on the street to Coki, but basically right next door. Methinks retirement soon come and my book needs to be written!

This is our last night, on our longest stay yet, 4 weeks and its still hard to go home! Our daughter, her boyfriend and our G'Kids , 9 & 13 were here for a week, their 1st night we finally made it to The Toad & the Tart and we all loved it!! I have known about this place but had never gone, we made it for Fri. fish & chips. It was exactly as I pictured it, I have never been to England, but this is how I would think a local pub in a working class neighborhood would look!! And Anna, the Tart is just that, wicked sense of humor and has a loyal following for the nights she is open. If you are allergic to cats, don't go. she has a few wandering around and since I miss my 2 cats we loved them. The G'Kids got a kick out of the Gecko on the wall and all the Toad (AKA frogs) all over , even one on a lamp!! OK, gecko real, frogs collection items. We will go back again, after last night we heard that her Prime Rib on Sat is the best on the Island .

I have told so many people, rent a car!! tomorrow I turn 64 and my husband and I drive all over, even on the car ferry to STJ, and each visit we discover more places we have never been before[! I wouldn't walk on the road, too narrow and so many blind curves.. We always go to Bolongo for the Wed night carnival, Molly Malone's in Red Hook, Senor Pizza is pretty good and they deliver. Meg ans Beach is a must do, also great pizza and sandwiches at their beach bar. We ate at the Fish place in red hook, by the ferry dock and it was terrible, the food the service and simple side order mistakes ( there were 3 tables of diners) our kids stopped there for lunch and were also disappointed.

The Marina Market is also very pricey and over-rated ...the food center has a better selection and there is a deli-grocery at Havensite Mall that we like a lot. Very good egg salad , also it is next door to the best book store!

Wow, this is too long, need to go to bed so we can sit poolside until time to go, lots of cruise ships in tomorrow so we will have to leave earlier to get around the harbor. This has been a great trip and Sapphire Beach is the location we will come back to, after staying many different places since we discovered this little island 17 years ago!! You should come here and look around, then when you get home look on VRBO or Home Away for a rental by owner. Look at www.sapphireinthesun.com they do send cruise ship people here but they seldom go beyond the volley ball net and security keeps them away from the beautiful pool. Hope this helps someone!!! regards, kitty Lolly's Mommy ! can;t wait to see my furry babies...
