My wife/I and 2-3 other couples have gone to St John 3 out of the last 4 years and absolutely love it. Planning our next adventure and thinking about checking out another island. We have done the boat tours to Joist etc...but this time we may stay somewhere else.

Looking for a safe quaint island with great beaches...alittle off the beaten path but still able to belly up to the bar for a live band or head to the grocery to pick up dinner.....suggestions? Anegada? LDB? St Croix?

Somehwere you can rent a condo/villa and explore etc.....with similar atmosphere to STJ...just smaller.

Also...have always come down in Jan, Feb, or March...this time thinking Dec...is Dec rainy season?

Peter Island is unlikely to have a live band -- and definitely no grocery store.

I would look at Anegada or Virgin Gorda or maybe both. Spend three or four days on Anegada and a week on Virgin Gorda. Ten day trips are always better anyway.

All I can say is the 2 times in 10 plus years of coming to stj that I ventured elsewhere,,I was gravely sad I did... If you are truely happy on stj, don't think you will be happy elsewhere...

You have been given some great suggestions. My first choice would be Anguilla. Anguilla is not as pretty as SJ, but it's beaches are nicer and even more beautiful and more accessible. It also offers a wider range of food and nightlife. There are not as many villas to choose from, but several upscale hotels. It is also a short ferry ride from St Martin. It is less congested than SJ

My second choice would be Virgin Gorda but it is not in the same league as SJ or Anguilla,. The other possibility is Anagada. The beaches are beautiful, but it is remote and has few places to stay or eat.

Anguilla.......
